Jeongja café street: s'more cookie, Einspänner at Butter & Shelter

It's so hot and humid these days that outdoor activities are really tough, right? But staying cooped up at home all weekend felt stifling too, so for a change of mood I headed to the Jeongja café street in Bundang after a long while!

Today I'm bringing you a visit review of Butter & Shelter, a bakery café near Jeongja Station that's so famous for desserts on the Jeongja-dong café street that I'd been dying to go. Honestly, since it's known as a dessert specialist, I didn't expect much from the coffee. But wow... the desserts are a given, and the coffee is good enough to be called number one in Bundang, so I strongly recommend you stop by!

First impressions: a shop full of butter aroma

I'd actually tried Butter & Shelter's signature butter sand cookie before, as a gift from an acquaintance. I remember it tasting really luxurious and delicious, so I was even more excited about visiting in person this time.

The moment I stepped in, a nutty butter aroma filled the whole shop, and the cute yet atmospheric interior won me over.

The four items we ordered

We ordered four things at Butter & Shelter: a choco butter sand, a choco s'more cookie, the signature butter Einspänner and an iced Americano.

How do the choco butter sand and choco s'more cookie taste?

Butter & Shelter's choco butter sand had a generous filling of rich, nutty chocolate cream inside a crisp cookie sandwich. Take a bite and the nutty flavor and sweetness fill your whole mouth.

The choco s'more cookie we ordered with it was a hit too! The marshmallow in the middle is so chewy, and the texture melts away the second it hits your mouth. My kids wolfed it down in the blink of an eye, too. Truly living up to its name as a top dessert café in Jeongja-dong.

Butter Einspänner, with cream that lasts to the end

The highlight you absolutely can't skip at Butter & Shelter is the signature butter Einspänner (coffee topped with thick cream).

With a typical Einspänner, the cream on top often goes down first and you're left with just the bitter drink at the end, which is a bit sad, right? But the cream texture at Butter & Shelter was completely different.

Thanks to the super chewy, rich cream, you can enjoy coffee and cream together from the first sip to the very last, which is a huge plus! The sweet, rich butter cream flavor blends with the bitter espresso for a really deep, nutty taste. The clean iced Americano paired wonderfully with the desserts too, but this butter Einspänner is a must-order when you visit. (The Shelter Einspänner is highly recommended too!)

Gift sets and favor packaging

Butter & Shelter also sells a variety of pretty sets that are perfect for gifting.

The packaging containers are so tasteful and pretty that nobody would guess there are cookies inside from the box alone. They're great for thanking acquaintances or bringing to a friend's home or your in-laws' or parents' place. They're said to be very popular as favors for special occasions, so if you need a bulk or group order, I'd suggest calling the shop ahead of time! Given the high quality, prices overall aren't expensive, so it's reasonable.

Overall verdict on this Jeongja café street dessert café

In a cool, comfortable space I got perfect desserts and the coffee of my life, so it was a really happy weekend.
