Seongsu Station date café by pop-up stores, Loopspänner: LOOOP Bakery
In short
LOOOP Bakery is a large bakery café on Yeonmujang 5-gil near Seongsu Station in Seoul. On a weekday-afternoon Seongsu date with her husband, the writer ordered an iced Americano (₩6,000), the signature Loopspänner latte (₩8,500) and a bear-shaped matcha New York bear roll (₩8,000). LOOOP Bakery's prices are not cheap, but the sweet, nutty Loopspänner is a drink worth coming back for.

Is there a big café near the Seongsu Station pop-up stores?
LOOOP Bakery is a large bakery café on Yeonmujang 5-gil near Seongsu Station. It sits right next to the pop-up store I had visited, so it fits neatly into a pop-up browsing route. I was out on a date in Seongsu, looking for a bakery café, and Looop Bakery caught my eye, so I went.
Eating a meal and then going to a café has become the highlight of my day. I wondered if Seongsu even had big cafés, and it does! Plus it's right next to the pop-up store I'd visited, so it's a great spot if you're hopping between pop-ups!

The building's exterior looked like a Christmas present! It had a big ribbon on it. I also noticed that lots of foreign visitors were coming and going.

LOOOP Bakery: roomy seating that's easy to chat in
As a big café should be, LOOOP Bakery was really spacious with lots of tables. I'd expect it to get noisy when it's crowded, but we went around 2 p.m. on a weekday, and maybe because there were few people, talking was no problem at all.

There were really a lot of tables, and the day we went, more people were doing their own work at the café than on dates! It seemed to be a café students visit a lot. Whether you're coming alone, on a date, or need a chat with friends, it's a café people of all ages would like.

What breads does LOOOP Bakery have, and how hygienic is the display?
LOOOP Bakery has a huge variety of baked goods, including croissants, salt bread (a buttery Korean roll), cookies and cakes, so it was hard to choose. What I liked was that the breads weren't exposed to the air; most were covered with cases. At some cafés there are no cases and it doesn't look very hygienic, but here everything except one item was covered.

There were lots of breads, like croissants, salt bread, cookies and cakes, and the cookies looked popular? But I already had a bread in mind when I found this café, haha, so I picked purely on looks.

This little bear bread! It's called the Loop New York Bear Roll, and it comes in two flavors, matcha and blueberry. It was so cute that, even though taste usually matters more to me, I picked it just for the looks, haha. A good-looking bread tastes good too.

What we ordered and the prices: iced Americano, Loop Shpenner, New York bear roll
At LOOOP Bakery we ordered three things: an iced Americano for ₩6,000, a New York bear roll for ₩8,000, and the signature latte, the Loop Shpenner (a cream-topped latte), for ₩8,500. One thing I liked is that you can choose your coffee beans. I picked a bean with strong acidity.
- Iced Americano ₩6,000 (strongly acidic beans chosen)
- New York bear roll ₩8,000 (matcha flavor chosen)
- Loop Shpenner (signature latte) ₩8,500

The New York bear roll comes in two flavors, and we chose the one with the green head. It's matcha!
How long did the drinks take?
The bread was served together with the coffee once it was ready. There were quite a few customers, so the coffee took about 10 minutes. With more people it would probably take quite a while.

What does the matcha New York bear roll taste like inside?
The matcha New York bear roll was packed with matcha cream inside. Let me cut it open. Cutting into that golden-baked bread, I somehow felt bad...
The cream was sweet and full of matcha aroma. The ears are mostly bread, while the face has lots of cream. And the nose and mouth were chocolate, haha. For a second I ate it thinking, is the nose a Beatles-style thing? But it was chocolate.

Is LOOOP Bakery's signature Loop Shpenner worth trying?
The tastiest thing at LOOOP Bakery that day was actually the signature latte, the Loop Shpenner (₩8,500)! Honestly the price isn't friendly, but the taste consoled me.
Sweet, nutty and smooth, it was totally my taste! Among the shpenners I've had, it's on the sweet side. Personally, I think it would be good even without the cookie on top.
After that sweet, nutty shpenner I got a blood sugar spike, and my husband and I dozed off a little at the café. Even so, I'd definitely have the shpenner again on my next visit.
If you're worn out from browsing pop-ups around Seongsu Station, head to LOOOP Bakery and boost your energy with bread and a shpenner. Recommended!
