In short
Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a ssambap (rice with leafy wraps) Korean set-meal restaurant on Dolgoji-gil near Simhaksan mountain in Paju, Gyeonggi. On the last day of the Chuseok holiday, two orders of the Deuljeongsik set (20,000 won per person) came with soy-sauce stir-fried pork and gochujang stir-fried squid, eaten wrapped in lettuce, perilla leaves and baby napa cabbage from the ssam vegetable fridge by the entrance. With a spacious 68-seat dining room and plenty of wrap vegetables, Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a good fit for a healthy family meal out with parents and kids.

There are so many great restaurants around Simhaksan. A restaurant run by a chef who recently appeared on Culinary Class Wars 2 is nearby too. Around Simhaksan, if you're not a great restaurant you simply don't survive, haha.

Why we ended the Chuseok holiday at Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap
As Chuseok holiday was wrapping up, we wanted a healthy meal, and it turned out Deulkkot Ssambap was right near Simhaksan! We visited to eat vegetables and meat the healthy way, ssambap-style.
Is parking easy at Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap?
Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap has parking for 10+ cars, so we drove there comfortably.

How does the waitlist work if there's a line?
Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a popular hanjeongsik spot near Simhaksan, so there may be a wait during peak times. You can register on Tableling and wait on the chairs in front of Deulkkot Ssambap. Or since there are plenty of large Paju cafés nearby, it's also nice to relax at a café until it's your turn.

How many seats does Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap have?
The Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap dining room has 12 four-person tables, 2 six-person tables, and 1 eight-person table, seating 68 people total. The interior felt quite spacious, and the tables were spaced generously apart, making it great for families to chat comfortably while eating.

Beside each table is a drawer with a call bell attached. Inside the drawer are spoons, chopsticks, tissues, and wet wipes.

Ordering by phone with the table QR code
At Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap, you scan the QR code on the edge of the table with your phone to order. You can add items to your cart and place the order right there. It was nice not having to tell staff each item one by one — ordering comfortably from your phone.

Turns out idol group IZNA had visited Deulkkot Ssambap too?! IZNA's members are so pretty and I've been curious what they look like in person, so it was surprising to learn they'd been here.

Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap menu and the Deuljeongsik set we ordered
At Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap, we ordered two portions of Deuljeongsik at ₩20,000 per person.

The ssam vegetable fridge at the entrance
To the left of the entrance at Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap is a fridge full of wrap vegetables. There's lettuce, perilla leaves, romaine (maybe?), napa cabbage, chicory, peppers, and more, so you can eat a well-rounded variety of vegetables. I don't eat vegetables much at home since I just don't buy them, so when I'm out I really have to make an effort to eat my greens!
Sweet pumpkin porridge to start
Deuljeongsik began with sweet pumpkin porridge as a starter. The texture was very smooth and it was quite sweet, so kids can enjoy it too.

Deuljeongsik doenjang soup and side dishes
Then the soup and side dishes are set out one by one. First a rich doenjang (fermented soybean paste) soup was placed on the induction burner, followed by a variety of banchan (side dishes) that get the appetite going: salad with black sesame dressing, thick doenjang dip, seasoned bellflower root, stir-fried aged kimchi, stir-fried zucchini, pickled onion, seasoned laver flakes, yeolmu kimchi, and eggplant namul.

The doenjang jjigae (stew) on the induction burner comes to a bubbling boil quickly. It's packed with generous chunks of tofu, so it's perfect for polishing off a whole bowl of rice.

The stone-pot rice turned out nice and sticky. We quickly transferred the rice out, then poured hot water over the crispy layer left behind. We'll enjoy that like sungnyung (scorched-rice tea) after the meal!

How do the stir-fried pork and squid ssam taste?
The main dishes of Deuljeongsik (₩20,000 per person) are soy-sauce-seasoned pork stir-fry and gochujang-based squid stir-fry. Both dishes pair well wrapped in the greens, so you get to enjoy the luxury of eating pork stir-fry and squid stir-fry together in one bite.
I tried a little rice on a perilla leaf topped with squid stir-fry and thick doenjang dip — the flavor was a work of art. I'm actually more of a perilla-leaf person than a lettuce person, haha.
The lettuce, not wanting to lose out, was showing off its freshness, so I made one more wrap. Rice, pork stir-fry, and thick doenjang dip on lettuce were also a great match. The thick doenjang dip wasn't too salty, so it went well with both the pork and squid stir-fry.

A ssambap restaurant where you eat plenty of vegetables
Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap has such a wide variety of wraps that even trying each type just once gets you through 5–6 wraps. So the real advantage of Deulkkot Ssambap is that you end up eating a lot of vegetables! Even kids who dislike vegetables would surely eat here.

Coffee and ice cream dessert, plus a receipt review event
On the way out after the meal, Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap has coffee and ice cream. The ice cream comes in strawberry or chocolate, so choose carefully!

Through the Naver receipt review event, you can get a ₩1,000 scratch lottery ticket (Spitto), so post your receipt review and try your luck!
