What is Coffee Dripper, the roastery café near Gangmun Beach?

Coffee Dripper is a roastery café at 229-4 Nanseolheon-ro, 1st floor, Gangneung, near Gangmun Beach. I visit Gangneung a lot in vacation season, and Gangmun Beach and Chodang Sundubu (soft tofu) Village are almost always on my route. That day, after walking the beach and having lunch, I was desperate for a cold coffee.

It was peak season and the cafés right on the beach looked packed, so I wandered around a bit and ended up at Coffee Dripper near Gangmun Beach. When I first saw the outside I wondered, is this even a café? But it really is a roastery café.

Parking and the peak-season wait at Coffee Dripper

I could park right in front of Coffee Dripper, and even in peak summer there was no wait, so we sat by the window straight away. Being near Gangmun Beach, I'd worried about parking, so that was a relief. But the parking space isn't generous, so I'd come a little early in peak season.

It's near a tourist area so I expected crowds, but when I went there was no wait and plenty of seats. Customers kept coming in while we drank, but it was never hard to find a seat.

Honestly, while searching I also considered an ocean-view café, but that day I wanted to quietly have a coffee first rather than look at the sea. I usually like roastery cafés, and since Coffee Dripper roasts its beans in-house, I was curious how they'd taste.

Coffee Dripper's interior and floor-to-ceiling window seats

The interior of Coffee Dripper feels clean rather than a cozy, sentimental café, and the floor-to-ceiling window seats get great light. The tables are spaced widely, so we couldn't hear the neighboring conversations much, and it was nice for chatting about our trip over coffee.

My window seat had a full-height window, so the light was good and the view wide open. I was happy just spending time looking out.

What we ordered at Coffee Dripper and prices

At Coffee Dripper we ordered an iced Americano, a handmade vanilla bean latte, a milk soft serve cone, and a scone with raspberry jam. When I go to a café I feel bad having only coffee, so I usually add a dessert. I had meant to try the sundubu (soft tofu) pudding, but it was already sold out. Disappointed, I ordered other things.

Drinks and desserts ordered at Coffee Dripper
Coffee, ice cream and scone on a wooden table

As soon as the desserts and drinks came out, the ice cream caught my eye. Coffee and a scone alone might have felt like a familiar combo, but with the wooden table and the café's mood, adding ice cream made it an even more satisfying tea time. My boyfriend was the one who suggested ordering it, and I think it was an excellent choice.

Milk soft serve cone: chocolate-coated and crisp to the last bite

The milk soft serve cone at Coffee Dripper was smooth and sweet, with chocolate brushed on the inside of the cone. Because of that it didn't go soggy easily, and thanks to the chocolate coating it stayed crisp right to the last bite. You could feel the care they put into small details 👍

Is the scone with raspberry jam worth ordering?

The scone at Coffee Dripper tasted plain and not too sweet. I usually prefer sweet desserts, but that day, having it with raspberry jam and then coffee, it came across as pleasantly mild, which worked for me.

Iced Americano and handmade vanilla bean latte

How do the iced Americano and vanilla bean latte taste?

The iced Americano at Coffee Dripper was strong at first sip but clean afterward, and the handmade vanilla bean latte wasn't very sweet, so it went well with dessert. I had the Americano after the scone with raspberry jam, and the coffee's bitterness lingered even after the jam's sweetness, so they paired nicely.

Is Coffee Dripper a good stop between Gangmun Beach and Chodang Sundubu Village?

Coffee Dripper is within a good walking distance of Gangmun Beach, so it's a nice place to rest after a beach stroll. It also fits well after a meal in Chodang Sundubu Village, so it worked well as part of a trip route.

I was a little sad that the sundubu pudding was sold out this time, so next time I want to come earlier and be sure to try it.
