Songdo café break with hojicha ice cream: Wunder Coffee Bar

When I think of Songdo, Hyundai Outlet and Triple Street come to mind. My boyfriend and I went shopping for clothes as a date, getting ready for the cooler fall weather. After walking around and looking through so many stores, more time had passed than I expected, and my feet were hurting. We stopped by Wunder Coffee Bar, a café at Songdo Hyundai Outlet, to sit down for a bit and have something to drink.

I heard Wunder Coffee Bar began in Yeokgok, Bucheon. Adding a bar concept to coffee, it aims to serve coffee that feels easy to drink every day.

The branch I visited was inside Songdo Hyundai Outlet. Since it was called a café, I assumed there would be separate seating like at a typical café. But this one did not have seating reserved just for the café.

After ordering, you find an empty seat in the Hyundai Outlet food court and have your drinks there. At first, I wondered where we were supposed to drink without dedicated seats, but we looked around and found an open table nearby.

Shopping at Songdo Hyundai Outlet involves more walking than you might think. We had wandered from Triple Street to Hyundai Outlet looking at clothes that day, and at some point I really wanted to sit down and rest.

Ordering a tangerine-grapefruit ade and hojicha Wunder Gato

We ordered a tangerine-grapefruit ade for ₩6,800 and a Wunder Gato for ₩7,500. We each ordered one and decided to share. Rather than getting only coffee as usual, I wanted something refreshing too, so we chose the tangerine-grapefruit ade.

The Wunder Gato was a menu item I was trying for the first time. It comes with a latte and ice cream, and you can choose hojicha, classic vanilla, or a twist mix for the ice cream. We chose hojicha.

What did the hojicha ice cream taste like?

Hojicha is tea made by roasting green tea, so I heard it tastes a little different from regular green tea. It was my first time having hojicha ice cream, so I was curious what it would be like. Once I tried it, the black-tea flavor came through much more strongly than I expected. Personally, it felt similar to eating Earl Grey ice cream.

I had expected the slightly bitter flavor of green tea ice cream, but it had more of a black-tea feel, which actually made it familiar and easy to eat. Since the ice cream sits on top of the latte, it gradually melts and becomes easier to enjoy together with the latte.

I liked the hojicha more than I expected, so I became curious about the other ice cream flavors too. You can order ice cream on its own as well as in a latte pairing like the Wunder Gato, so it seemed like a good option when you want ice cream while shopping.

Sweet Wunder Gato with a refreshing ade

I chose the tangerine-grapefruit ade because I wanted a refreshing drink. Since the Wunder Gato comes with both a latte and ice cream, I ordered something on the brighter, more refreshing side to drink. With tangerine and grapefruit in it, it went nicely when alternating bites with the sweet Wunder Gato, and sitting there sharing our order for a while helped ease the tiredness from all that walking.

We had gone through several stores looking at clothes that day, so even a short time sitting down was something I needed. Just taking a break over a drink while shopping gave me the energy to walk around again.

After we finished shopping, we headed back toward Triple Street and continued our date. From browsing clothes to resting at a café, we spent the whole day in Songdo, so it felt like a more relaxed date than usual. The hojicha ice cream I tried for the first time at Wunder Coffee Bar stayed with me because its flavor was richer than I expected, and if I visit Hyundai Outlet again, I want to try a Wunder Gato with classic vanilla next time.
