I heard there was a restaurant selling monjayaki—the dish I tried on a trip to Japan—at Triple Street in Songdo, Incheon, so I went straight there! Okonomiyaki is a pretty common menu item now, but it seems lots of people still have not tried monjayaki. It may be a little unfamiliar, but I thought it was delicious! I had it in Japan and loved it, then heard there was somewhere in Korea that sells it too, so off I went!! 💗

How to order at Jojo and the dinner atmosphere
At Jojo, you need to fill out the order form yourself! There is even a spot at the top for a nickname, so you can write your nickname or name there. The restaurant has an izakaya-like atmosphere. It is a great spot for dinner or for having a beer!!
What comes in the monjayaki two-person set
Monjayaki two-person set
When you order the monjayaki two-person set, you get three dishes together: the main monjayaki, karai yakisoba, and Waterfall Potato.

Waterfall Potato
The name alone was cute! The potatoes and egg are piled up like a waterfall, so it caught my eye the moment it arrived at the table. Monjayaki and yakisoba are warm, rich griddle dishes, while Waterfall Potato works nicely as a side to enjoy alongside them, so the combination was great 🤍

How spicy is the karai yakisoba?
This yakisoba is filling enough to feel like a full meal. Having monjayaki alone felt just a little short on quantity, which was a shame, but the set includes something meal-like, so it was really satisfying! It has a slight kick, just as its name suggests, making it nice to alternate with the monjayaki. The savory flavor unique to teppanyaki dishes plus that spiciness really wakes up your appetite. If you like yakisoba, you will definitely love this flavor!
Staff-cooked monjayaki
Main dish Monjayaki

Something I had only seen in Japan, right here in Korea! This is what I came to Jojo for :) Unlike regular okonomiyaki, it is a Japanese-style teppanyaki dish where ingredients cook on the griddle and you scoop up little bits as you go. It even comes with cheese, and the staff takes care of all the cooking from start to finish, so you can just chat with your companions while you wait!

The key to enjoying monjayaki
It does have a fascinating look when you first see it, but it tastes so good! The outer edges cook crispy while the inside stays soft, so the combination of textures is lovely. There are also little square pieces of rice cake throughout, which add a nice chewy bite. The key with monjayaki is to gently scrape up the bits stuck to the griddle with a small spatula and eat them 🤎 It felt unfamiliar at first, but once I started eating, I just kept reaching for more! If you come to Triple Street in Songdo, I recommend monjayaki for dinner!!
