Sushi dinner after shopping in Songdo: Sushi Doku The Songdo
While shopping in Songdo,

we picked sushi for dinner! This time I went to Sushi Doku The Songdo (스시도쿠 더송도) in Honesta Mall.

I like eating a bit of lots of different things rather than one or two kinds of sushi, so I ordered the Premium Sushi Special Set, 10 pieces. The lineup is varied, from flounder and red sea bream to salmon, sweet shrimp, akami (lean tuna), eel and ankimo (monkfish liver), and side dishes come with it too, so the table was a lot more generous than I expected.
And this time I added a highball too! haha If you're looking for sushi in Songdo, have a look.

If you come by car, you can use the Honesta Mall underground car park, so you don't have to worry much about parking when looking for a good place to eat in Songdo. That was handy.

What's the atmosphere like at Sushi Doku The Songdo?
The restaurant has wood-tone tables and Japanese-style decor, so it feels warm and tidy. Sushi in Songdo, here we come! Walking in, the whole place felt warm yet clean.

Wood-tone tables plus Japanese-style interior make it feel like a proper sushi restaurant! There are also partitions that divide the space between seats, so I could eat fairly comfortably.
It's not a stiff, formal vibe, so it seems fine for a date or a family meal out. For anyone looking for a place near Tekeunopakeu Station or a casual Japanese restaurant in Songdo, it looks easy to get to as well.

Premium Sushi Special Set (10 pieces): what's in it and the price
What I ordered was Sushi Doku The Songdo's Premium Sushi Special Set, 10 pieces, for ₩25,900. According to the menu, the sushi is flounder, red sea bream, salmon, squid, sweet shrimp, akami, red shrimp, snow crab meat, eel and ankimo. That's 10 kinds!
I liked that you get to try ten different pieces, one each, rather than several pieces of the same kind.

Once everything was out, it wasn't just sushi. Salad, chawanmushi (steamed egg custard), udon and tempura were all laid out too, so the table looked really lavish. A setup worth taking photos of. haha
Tasting all 10 kinds of sushi, one by one 🍣

The star of the set is of course the sushi! Starting with mild white fish like flounder and red sea bream, then salmon, squid, the shrimp, akami and eel, every piece tastes different, so picking through them is fun. The colors on the plate are all different too, so it looked pretty the moment it arrived.
You just brush soy sauce on like this. Fun~ Now let's eat!
Flounder and salmon nigiri
Chewy flounder~~ wow~~ thick and fresh~~ so good.

Of course I can't skip my favorite, salmon. A long-tailed one, it seems. So long~~

Akami (lean tuna) nigiri
The akami had real presence from its vivid red color. Alternating it with the mild white fish, I could clearly feel the difference in flavor and texture even though it's all sushi.

From sweet shrimp to red shrimp 🦐
If you like shrimp, you'll probably like this set's lineup. It includes both sweet shrimp and red shrimp, so you get to taste two different textures. Even in the photo the meat looks plump, so it looked great.

Finishing with eel and ankimo (monkfish liver)
After a good run of mild sushi, now for something richer! The glossy eel sushi, with its sweet-salty sauce, definitely stood out from the other pieces. I tend to save strong-flavored sushi like eel for later, and eating it near the end worked well again.
This set also includes ankimo. It's made from monkfish liver, so unlike ordinary fish sushi it's soft and rich. Being able to taste familiar pieces like flounder and salmon along with something a bit different like ankimo was one of this set's strong points.
What sides come with the Premium Sushi Special Set?
The set comes with salad, chawanmushi, udon and tempura. It's nice to have something warm in between instead of eating only sushi, right?

I started with the salad, ate the soft chawanmushi, and took a sip of warm udon broth now and then!

With the tempura too, it was a much more filling meal than just 10 pieces of sushi. Switching between cold sushi and warm udon and tempura was a good combination. So it seems better suited to people who want a proper full meal than a place where you just eat a few pieces of sushi and leave.

Sushi with a highball for dinner: how was it? 🍋
That day I didn't stop at sushi at Sushi Doku The Songdo and ordered a highball too. haha A big glass full of ice with lemon in it, so refreshing! Sushi and highball turned out to be a better match than I expected.
Especially after something a bit richer like the eel or tempura, a sip of highball left my mouth feeling clean. A piece of sushi, a sip of highball, another piece of sushi, another sip. haha
With a plate of sushi in front of me and a highball in hand, it felt less like just coming for a meal and more like an evening drink with good food, which I liked. The final cheers photo captures the mood of that day just right.
Who is Sushi Doku The Songdo best for?
Sushi Doku The Songdo suits people who'd rather taste a little of many kinds of sushi than a lot of one kind.

The Premium Sushi Special Set, 10 pieces, at ₩25,900 that I had had a varied lineup of flounder, red sea bream, salmon, squid, sweet shrimp, akami, red shrimp, snow crab meat, eel and ankimo, and with warm sides too it was a fairly filling meal.
Above all, it's close to Tekeunopakeu Station and inside Honesta Mall, so it's a convenient spot for a meal while shopping or on a date in Songdo. If you want to try a variety of sushi in one go in Songdo, have a look at Sushi Doku The Songdo. If you go in the evening like me, adding a highball sounds good too.
