Songdo teppanyaki restaurant with no weekend break time: Jojo

In short

Jojo Triple Street Branch (죠죠, JYOJYO) is a teppanyaki restaurant specializing in okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) and yakisoba on Songdo Triple Street in Yeonsu, Incheon. Two diners shared the Signature Set for 2 (39,000 won) with okonomiyaki, karai (spicy) yakisoba and donpeiyaki (Japanese pork belly omelet). They found the wood-tone interior, the griddle at each table and the bag baskets convenient. Jojo is an easy Songdo teppanyaki stop on weekends, when there is no break time.

Today I'm bringing you an honest review of my visit to the teppanyaki restaurant Jojo (JYOJYO) at Songdo Triple Street.

What is Jojo at Songdo Triple Street like?

Jojo Triple Street Branch is the teppanyaki restaurant of Jojo, the owner-chef who appeared as the "Teppan Master" in the Netflix series Culinary Class Wars 2. There was a standee at the entrance that caught my eye right away!

It's the imposing presence of Chef Jojo, the "Teppan Master" from Culinary Class Wars 2! Before even eating, my expectations for the food shot way up.

Jojo Songdo opening hours and weekend break time

Jojo Triple Street Branch is open 11:30–23:00, and on Saturdays and Sundays it runs with no break time. That makes it easy to drop in whenever suits you on a weekend.

  • Address: 33-3 Songdogwahak-ro 16beon-gil, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, South Korea (Unit 121b-2)
  • Hours: 11:30–23:00
  • Weekends (Sat, Sun): no break time

Inside Jojo: a good spot for a date?

Step inside Jojo Songdo and a warm, cozy wood-tone interior greets you. The ceilings are high and the place feels tidy, so it's snug without being stuffy at all!

  • Clean, comfortable tables: There are seats for 2 up to 4, and the tables are spaced generously, so it was great for eating and chatting comfortably.
  • Smart storage: Baskets/storage boxes for bags and belongings are ready under the chairs or around the table, so keeping coats and bags was really convenient!
  • An individual griddle at every table: Each table has its own neat griddle, so the okonomiyaki, yakisoba and other dishes cooked in the kitchen stay warm to the very end, which I found very appealing.

Jojo menu and what's in the Signature Set for 2

Menu at Jojo Triple Street Branch

There were two of us, so we ordered the Signature Set for 2 (₩39,000), which lets you try Jojo's signature dishes in one go. It comes with Jojo Signature Okonomiyaki (savory cabbage pancake) + Karai Yakisoba (spicy stir-fried noodles) + Donpeiyaki.

While waiting for our order, we could watch the chef carefully cooking okonomiyaki on a huge griddle in the open kitchen beyond the bar table! Seeing fresh cabbage and ingredients handled so flamboyantly on the big teppan was a treat for the eyes and ears, and it built up the anticipation even more before the meal.

And finally, our order arrived.

Wow~ what a generous spread, right??? Let's go through the dishes one by one.

How does the Jojo Signature Okonomiyaki taste?

The Jojo Signature Okonomiyaki was a thick teppan okonomiyaki with four ingredients: shrimp, squid, beef and pork. The moment it arrived, my eyes went straight to the glossy sweet-and-salty sauce and the special mayonnaise swirled over it like a soft whirlwind! A cute little Jojo flag was stuck in it as an accent, which made it perfect for photos too.

I pressed down with the mini spatula provided and sliced through, and I could feel the thick, hearty body of it right through my fingertips!

  • Four toppings, big on texture: I scooped out a big piece and popped it in my mouth, and shrimp, squid, beef and pork were all generously packed in, so it was fun to chew. Springy seafood and juicy, savory meat blended with soft cabbage, and the flavor was top-notch!
  • The Teppan Master's crispy-outside, moist-inside skill: Cooked properly on the griddle, it's golden and crisp outside yet soft and moist inside. The sweet-salty sauce soaks all the way into the batter, so every bite made me exclaim. It's addictive.
  • Kept warm to the end by the griddle: The teppan on the table keeps the temperature warm, so even the last piece had the same moistness and wow factor as when it first came out. Really satisfying!

How spicy is the karai yakisoba?

The karai yakisoba, with its spicy kick, is the dish that anchors the flavor of the set for 2. When it arrived, the color combination of a soft-cooked fried egg with a bright yellow yolk, red pepper and red pickled ginger strips on top, and plump golden-fried shrimp looked so appetizing!

  • Springy whole shrimp and chewy noodles: When I picked up a heap of noodles with a big, plump shrimp using my chopsticks, the salty yet spicy special sauce coated every strand and made them glossy! The noodles weren't mushy or hard, just pleasantly chewy and clinging to the mouth. Excellent texture.
  • A soft yolk and spice in perfect balance: Break the fried egg yolk and mix it through the noodles, and the richness of the yolk softly wraps the spicy sauce, so you keep eating without getting tired of it. Add crunchy cabbage and tangy ginger strips in between and your mouth feels neatly refreshed.
  • A perfect match with the okonomiyaki: The sweet, savory-salty okonomiyaki plus the sharp, spicy flavor of the karai yakisoba balances the whole meal perfectly! With that sweet-salty-and-spicy combo, we enjoyed every last bite without leaving a single piece.

What does donpeiyaki (Japanese pork belly omelet) taste like?

Donpeiyaki is a Japanese omelet stuffed with pork belly and cabbage inside a thin egg sheet, the side dish that completes the Signature Set for 2. Mayonnaise and special teriyaki sauce were drizzled in delicate waves over the golden-fried egg, which caught my eye from the first look.

  • Stuffed pork belly and crunchy cabbage: When I lifted a piece with the mini spatula, the thin, soft egg wrapper was packed layer by layer with thinly grilled, salty pork belly and cabbage that kept its crunch! The savory meat juices and the natural sweetness of the cabbage blend perfectly with the fluffy egg.
  • A fluffy, soft texture in the mouth: Take a bite and the sweet-salty sauce drizzled on top and the savory mayonnaise burst across your mouth as it melts away. It comes neatly cut into bite-size pieces, so it's easy to enjoy without feeling heavy.
  • Fantastic chemistry with the mains: Have a piece in between bites of the okonomiyaki or karai yakisoba and you get a much more varied taste experience. It made me think of a cold beer or a highball, a delightful snack and a treat.

Overall verdict on Jojo Triple Street Branch
