The writer found the bakery sold out at 3 PM, returned at 1 PM and bought the Grand Prize barley loaf (₩6,000), the grain barley loaf (₩6,500), the rye barley loaf (₩3,700) and a tub of mascarpone milk cream. What kind of bakery is Chamsae Bori Sikppang, Bucheon main branch?
Chamsae Bori Sikppang (참새보리식빵), Bucheon main branch, is a bakery specializing in sikppang (Korean-style sandwich loaf) near Bucheon Station, and it won the Grand Prize on SBS's Master of Living! It's known as the nationwide No. 1 loaf in Korea, so my expectations were extra high!

Parking and how to get to Chamsae Bori
There's no parking in the building, but you can stop briefly in the alley behind it. I parked in the alley for a moment, dashed in, grabbed the bread and hurried back out! It's on a corner of a big road, so it's not hard to find.
What time should you go to get bread at Chamsae Bori?
The shop opens at 10 AM every day and is closed on Mondays and Thursdays. Honestly, you need to go right at opening or fairly early to get bread. The loaves are so good that last time I came around 3 PM, and they'd closed because they ran out of ingredients... I was so sad back then! This time I came at 1 PM! Luckily, I was able to buy bread.

Chamsae Bori menu and prices
Chamsae Bori Sikppang, Bucheon main branch, is a barley loaf specialist on a big road corner near Simgok Overpass Intersection.

- Grand Prize chewy barley loaf, ₩6,000: the nationwide No. 1 loaf from a Master of Living!
- Grain chewy barley loaf, ₩6,500: apparently the best for managing sugar!
- Rye chewy barley loaf, ₩3,700: apparently good for gut health!

The moment you walk in, there's the Master's nameplate, ta-da! The shop has these numbers posted as an introduction.
- 1: the No. 1 loaf from a Master
- 10: 10 times more dietary fiber than rice
- 70: 70 hours of fermentation
- 0: zero margarine
- 3040: keeps you full for 30-40% longer

Financiers and the receipt review event
I thought Chamsae Bori only sold loaves, but they also sell round-bellied financiers! They look like they'd be delicious even without tasting! There was also an event: write a Naver receipt review on the spot and you get 1 financier.

Healthy bread, tasty bread, Chamsae Bori. This bread lover is happy!
70-hour slow, cold-fermented loaves
They told me the bread goes through 70 hours of slow, cold fermentation! It's made with natural starter fermented in the shop and various ingredients like barley, so of course it'd be different from ordinary loaves!

Shop-made mascarpone milk cream: how many should you buy?
The shop makes its mascarpone milk cream in-house too, and it felt like a must-buy, so I grabbed one right away! Then I regretted it at home! Why did I buy only one! Silly me!! You need to buy two tubs of the mascarpone.

Grand Prize in the bread war on Master of Living!! Becoming a Master on that show is actually... not easy, and I get to eat a Master's bread myself?!

Definitely try the free sample!
Unlike regular whipped cream, the mascarpone milk cream feels chewier, softer and thicker than fresh cream. Definitely try the sample! The bread melted in my mouth and vanished in a flash, which really surprised me. The owner said I could have one more (they read my face, haha).

No margarine, no preservatives, a loaf even sparrows would love (chamsae means sparrow)!!

Success on my second visit! Let's hurry home and dig in, dig in!!

Grand Prize, grain or rye barley loaf: which should you pick?
Go for the Grand Prize loaf if you want a soft, moist texture, the grain loaf for a nutty grain flavor, and the rye loaf for cranberry aroma and rich ingredients. How can just three kinds of loaf have people lining up? I didn't know until I tore into one... I didn't know bread could be this good, this easy to digest, until I tried it...
- Like a soft, moist texture? Grand Prize chewy barley loaf
- Want the nutty flavor of grains? Grain chewy barley loaf
- Want cranberry aroma and hearty ingredients? Rye chewy barley loaf
The soft, moist Grand Prize barley loaf
Honestly, the Grand Prize loaf was the most memorable of the three! The assumption that they'd all be much the same was totally shattered. I bet everyone's curious whether it beats the loaf from a certain well-known chain bakery!

The grain-packed grain barley loaf
As the name says, the grain barley loaf lets you taste the charm of grains! It feels packed with grains, so it has a different appeal from ordinary loaves~! It's said to help with blood sugar, so I'd recommend it to anyone who avoids loaves because of sugar!

The rye barley loaf, charming from the cranberry aroma on
The rye barley loaf is a bit smaller than the Grand Prize and grain loaves! But maybe because they don't skimp on ingredients, it was super nutty and I could chew the grains! The moment I opened the bag, the signature cranberry aroma and the mild charm of rye blended nicely, and it was a different kind of treat!
The Grand Prize and grain loaves differ in color right away! The grain loaf is darker, probably because of the grains~!

What's it like spread with mascarpone milk cream?
I spread the mascarpone milk cream on the barley loaf and, as expected, it tasted exactly like the sample! Soft, tasty, moist and sweet!

The rye loaf had to be cut before eating, and it was really good because it's so full of ingredients! Nutty, with grains to chew on! The cranberries were chewy too! Who ate all that bread? Haha

Overall verdict
I bought and tried all three loaves at Chamsae Bori, the Grand Prize, grain and rye barley loaves, and each has its own character, so you can pick by taste! If you're looking for healthy bread, I strongly recommend Chamsae Bori Sikppang, Bucheon main branch!
