A while back I was trying to figure out where to meet a friend for a weekday dinner, and we settled on Okgil-dong in Bucheon since it was easy for both of us to reach by bus. It had been a while since we'd seen each other, so we decided on Korean BBQ, and after some searching I picked Dwaeji Gongbang Bucheon Okgil-dong Main Branch. I wanted somewhere we could chat comfortably over meat and drinks, and after actually going, it turned out to be a particularly good meeting spot among the Korean BBQ restaurants in Bucheon Okgil-dong.
Even on a weekday evening there were plenty of diners, which made me think this place is already quite popular in the neighborhood. Let me introduce Dwaeji Gongbang Bucheon Okgil-dong Main Branch, a Bucheon Okgil-dong restaurant I'd recommend when planning a Korean BBQ meetup.

The vibe and seating at Dwaeji Gongbang Bucheon Okgil-dong Main Branch
Dwaeji Gongbang Bucheon Okgil-dong Main Branch is a pork specialty restaurant located in Okgil-dong. Even from outside, you could feel the lively energy typical of a Korean BBQ place. Inside, several round tables were set up, each with a grill and ventilation system installed. It looked great for two friends visiting together, but also fine for larger groups gathering to eat meat. Sure enough, that day there were customers of various group sizes enjoying their meals.

Domestic female pork, yay~

Oh, there's a self phone charging station? Nice touch, this kind of service.

There's also a Safe Restaurant designation mark on the wall.

Ordering — Iberico pork neck and Hanwoo pork special cuts
Each table had a tablet ordering device, so we could browse the menu slowly before ordering.

Besides pork options, there was also a good variety of meal dishes and alcohol. Apparently Dwaeji Gongbang focuses on selling premium Iberico pork neck and Hanwoo pork special cuts. After debating which cuts to get, we decided to try several kinds together.

They also had stews on the menu

And Pepsi too, go!
Self-bar side dishes and the basic table setting
Before the meat even arrived, I already liked the basic table setting. Sauces, seasonings, and a variety of side dishes that go well with meat were all laid out.

My favorite — pickled garlic scapes! Goes really well with meat too.

The shredded green onions looked appetizing too.

The refreshingly fermented white kimchi was also great. After a bite of meat, a piece of white kimchi cleaned my palate and sent my chopsticks right back toward the meat.

Being able to freely help ourselves to side dishes was also convenient. The self-bar right in view had several kinds of pickled vegetables and other sides ready to go. The tangy, salty side dishes paired well with the fatty pork. At a Korean BBQ place, the meat matters, but the side dishes need to be good too so you don't get tired of eating — and here, each side dish was pretty tasty.

Another nice touch — after the table setting, they put down this metal sheet to prevent oil splatters.

They even had a guide on how to eat the meat deliciously! That kind of thoughtfulness is a point that earns extra applause when choosing a spot for a meetup!

The complimentary doenjang jjigae
Another highlight was this complimentary doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). It came bubbling in a stone pot, with tofu and zucchini among the ingredients.
The broth was fairly rich and a bit spicy-savory, which made it great to have alongside the meat.
It cut through the greasiness that can build up from eating meat continuously — really good.
Thick-cut pork, pre-grilled by staff
And finally, the main event! The meat we ordered came out generously piled on a wooden board.

The thickly cut pork was topped with king oyster mushrooms and peppers, making it look appetizing just to see. The meat was quite thick, so I figured the juices would hold up well once it hit the grill.
The meat looked clean and fresh, which built up my anticipation even before grilling started.

Another plus for Dwaeji Gongbang: the staff pre-grills the meat for you. As soon as it hit the hot grill, it quickly started sizzling.
As the surface of the thick meat browned nicely, a savory aroma rose up.
They cut it into bite-sized pieces and grilled it a bit more, so the outside turned crisp while the inside stayed juicy. Looking back at the photos, the smoke rising off the grill really captures that feeling of properly coming for a meat dinner.

Taking a bite of the well-cooked meat, it was much more tender than I expected.

The fattier cuts had a great savory flavor, and even the leaner parts, like the neck, weren't dry.

Since the meat was thick, it definitely had a satisfying chew.

It was delicious on its own, but adding pickled sides or white kimchi added a refreshing note that made for a great combo.

Eating with my friend, we said several times that the meat was great, but the side dishes here were also seriously good.

How was it as a spot for a friend's dinner?
Dwaeji Gongbang Bucheon Okgil-dong Main Branch had a great atmosphere for meeting a friend over a comfortable dinner — a good Bucheon Okgil-dong restaurant. I could kind of see why the place was busy even on a weekday. Not only was the meat itself delicious, the overall package, including the self-bar side dishes and the doenjang jjigae, was solid. And it's a plus that you don't have to stress over menu choices when meeting up with a friend who loves meat.

If you're setting up a dinner with a friend or looking for a Korean BBQ place for a group in Bucheon Okgil-dong, Dwaeji Gongbang Bucheon Okgil-dong Main Branch is worth putting on the list. There's real fun in grilling thick, juicy pork straight on the grill, and the side dishes were tasty enough to make it a satisfying meal. Next time a meat meetup comes up in Okgil-dong, this is a place that will naturally come to mind.
