Sokcho mulhoe restaurant: last-stop takeout to carry home, Hwanggeum

Sokcho Hwanggeum Mulhoe Hoetjip (속초황금물회횟집) is a mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) and raw fish restaurant right in front of the entrance to Sokcho Jungang Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. The signature Hwanggeum Mulhoe (20,000 won) was packed neatly for takeout with no broth leaking on the way home, came with generous live raw fish, and had a sweet-and-tangy broth with savory depth that was not overpowering. For anyone who wants to take mulhoe home as the last stop of a Sokcho trip, Sokcho Hwanggeum Mulhoe Hoetjip is a satisfying choice.

Sokcho market garlic dakgangjeong for beer and lunchbox: Seomin Gapbu

Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip is a dakgangjeong (sweet, crispy fried chicken) shop in Sokcho Jungang Market, Gangwon, selling boneless, garlic and deodeok dakgangjeong among other options. The garlic dakgangjeong (24,000 won) was bought to go and eaten as a snack in the car, with beer at home, and reheated as a lunchbox side the next day; the nutty sunflower seed topping and a sauce that stays moist even when cold stood out. Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip's garlic dakgangjeong suits anyone looking for Sokcho takeout to share and finish the day after the trip.

Yeonsu Korean restaurant: spicy roe kalguksu and rice, Haemokjeong

Haemokjeong Yeonsu Main Branch (해목정 연수본점) is a Korean seafood and galbi restaurant on Beotkkot-ro in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, across from Yeonsu Station Exit 1. On the day of Pentaport, the writer had lunch there and ordered two servings of fish roe, milt and mushroom kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) at 13,000 won each, added spicy chili powder and finished by adding a bowl of rice to the broth. The hearty, spicy broth and generous roe and milt made Haemokjeong's kalguksu a filling hangover lunch for two.

After-work makchang and beer at a Sindang Korean BBQ: Jinseong

Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Sindang Direct Branch is a Korean beef gopchang (grilled small intestine) and makchang restaurant in the food alley by Sindang Station Exit 7 in Jung-gu, Seoul. The order was 1 serving of hanwoo gopchang, 2 servings of hanwoo makchang and kkakdugi yangbap (fried rice with radish kimchi) for 9,000 won, and the makchang was so good that 1 more serving went on the table. With green onion kimchi, mustard leaf kimchi and altari radish grilled alongside and a cold beer, Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang is a great after-work gopchang spot in Sindang-dong.
