In short
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch (한담국수 곽지애월점) is a pork noodle restaurant at 33 Aewol-ro, Aewol-eup, Jeju, near Gwakji Beach and Handam Beach. A whole family ordered the bone broth pork noodles and the dongchimi (radish water kimchi) bibim noodles at ₩10,000 each, upgraded both to double portions for ₩1,000 extra, and added meat dumplings (₩7,000) and Jeju makgeolli (₩4,000). When everybody drives out to Aewol or Gwakji Beach in west Jeju for those emerald-blue ocean views, you start hunting for a local noodle place that fills your rumbling stomach with something hot and hearty, right? Haha!
Pork noodles are my soul food every time I go to Jeju ❤️ But honestly, noodle shops right in the middle of tourist spots have let me down more than once, with bland broth or pork topping that smells gamy! So I'm always searching for a real Aewol pork noodle place with deep, rich bone broth simmered for hours, loaded with Jeju pork, plus refreshing dongchimi (radish water kimchi) bibim noodles that clear your chest!

If you've ever asked, "Is there a pork noodle place right near Gwakji or Handam Beach that's easy to get to and comfortable with kids?" or "I want rich bone broth pork noodles, flavor-bomb dongchimi bibim noodles, plump meat dumplings, and a glass of Jeju makgeolli (rice wine)!", then focus on today's post, everyone! Haha!
This time the whole family stopped by and scraped our bowls clean at Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch (한담국수 곽지애월점), at 33 Aewol-ro, Aewol-eup, Jeju-si! When we walked in, the word had clearly gone global, because the place was full of foreign tourists enjoying their food 👏 I'll give you my honest review of the double-portion pork noodles and dongchimi bibim noodles (just ₩1,000 extra!) and the juicy meat dumplings. Haha!

What is the atmosphere like inside Handam Guksu?
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch has a clean, comfortable wood-toned interior and a lively vibe, bustling with foreign tourists too. The tables were spaced widely and turnover was quick, so we could eat comfortably without feeling cramped.

What stood out most was that quite a few foreign travelers were seated around the room while we ate, haha! You could feel the presence of a local Jeju pork noodle specialist that wins over not just Koreans but international palates too, and my anticipation grew while we waited for the food. Haha!
What are the menu prices, and how big is the ₩1,000 double portion?
At Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch, the bone broth pork noodles and dongchimi bibim noodles are ₩10,000 each, and you can upgrade to a double portion for just ₩1,000 more. To feed the whole family until we were stuffed, we upgraded both signature dishes to double portions and also ordered meat dumplings and Jeju makgeolli!

- Rich bone broth pork noodles (₩10,000 + ₩1,000 double portion): light yet deep bone broth simmered for hours, topped with plenty of boiled Jeju pork
- Dongchimi bibim noodles (₩10,000 + ₩1,000 double portion): a winning combo of cool dongchimi broth, special seasoning sauce, and boiled Jeju pork
- Side dish, meat dumplings (₩7,000): steamed dumplings with thin wrappers packed with juicy meat
- Jeju makgeolli (₩4,000): fizzy draft rice wine that pairs perfectly with Jeju's local noodles

Soon the noodles arrived in bowls as big as naengmyeon (cold noodle) bowls, practically overflowing, and the moment I saw the double portion I cried out, "Wow... we only paid ₩1,000 more and the amount is seriously enormous!" Haha!
Is the bone broth pork noodle free of gamy smell, and do kids eat it?
The bone broth pork noodles at Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch had a savory, rich broth with no porky gaminess, topped with tender boiled Jeju pork. It isn't harsh or spicy, so even the kids slurped up the broth.
First I tried a spoonful of the creamy, hefty broth of the signature dish! Wow... everyone! The moment the spoon touched my mouth, a deep gasp of delight just burst out ❤️

- Premium bone broth with zero gaminess: the porky or musty smell was completely handled, and the bones had clearly been simmered for hours, so the savory, lip-sticking richness rolled over my mouth like waves
- Plenty of boiled Jeju pork: the thickly sliced Jeju pork was boiled so tender that it melted in my mouth without any dryness!

The noodles weren't overcooked either, springy and chewy and soaked through with the rich broth, and since it's mild rather than harsh, our little ones ate like champs: as soon as I put some on their small plates they said, "Mom, the broth is so good!" and spooned up the broth too. Haha! You can really feel the depth of a famous Aewol pork noodle place!

How does the dongchimi bibim noodle taste?
The dongchimi bibim noodles at Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch weren't about heavy gochujang flavor: the special sauce is built on dongchimi broth, so it tasted sweet, tangy and refreshing. Toasted sesame and Jeju pork were piled generously on the bright red sauce, and I mixed it up with my chopsticks!
The whole time I was mixing, the spicy-sweet, nutty sesame oil aroma hit my nose hard, haha! I grabbed a big bundle of noodles and shoved it into my mouth with a big "ahh"...
It wasn't a stuffy gochujang taste: the special sauce is based on cool dongchimi broth, as if with floating ice crystals, so the more I chewed, the more refreshing, sweet-and-tangy flavor burst out ❤️

Wrapping a slice of tender boiled Jeju pork in chewy noodles and eating it in one bite, the spicy-sweet sauce and the pork's rich fat came together in a bewitching flavor that made me keep eating non-stop

Alternating between the mild bone broth noodles and the sharp, cool bibim noodles meant there was zero chance of getting sick of it. Haha!

Are the meat dumplings and Jeju makgeolli worth ordering?
The meat dumplings (₩7,000) at Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch came fresh from the steamer, thin wrappers packed with meat and vegetable filling, and the Jeju makgeolli (₩4,000) had a fizzy kick that went well with the noodles. Between bites of noodles, I dipped the piping hot dumplings in vinegar soy sauce and tried them!
The thin, chewy wrappers were packed with meat and vegetable filling with no gaps, so the moment I bit in, savory meat juice came pouring out 👏

The kids each held a dumpling in both hands and munched away happily! And downing a glass of Jeju makgeolli (₩4,000) with its charming, cool fizz took the noodles and dumplings up another level, and the fatigue of the trip just melted away. Haha!

Why I recommend Handam Guksu for a family meal in Aewol and Gwakji
If you want the real deal Aewol pork noodles that the whole family can eat until full, not some obvious Instagram-bait restaurant near Aewol or Gwakji Beach, don't hesitate: go to Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch at 33 Aewol-ro, 1st floor! Haha!
The moment you take a sip of the rich bone broth and wrap up a piece of pork, your whole body warms up and you'll feel the true happiness of a Jeju trip! Strongly recommended. Haha!
