Uicheon-view café in Chang-dong, Seoul: decaf vanilla latte at Uisagye

In short

Uisagye (우이사계) is a dessert café in a renovated old house facing Uicheon stream in Chang-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul, best known for its chimney bread. From a second-floor picture window overlooking ducks and greenery along Uicheon, the writer had the Sanghamokjang milk ice cream chimney bread switched to cinnamon (8,500 won + 300 won) and an iced vanilla latte made with decaf beans (5,200 won + 1,000 won). The crisp, chewy cinnamon chimney bread and nutty decaf coffee make Uisagye a relaxing Uicheon-view café worth recommending.

Uisagye opening hours and parking

Uisagye (우이사계) is open daily 10:00–21:00, and every Wednesday only the chimney bread is off the menu (the café itself runs as normal). It's on Uicheon-ro in Chang-dong, about 6 minutes by car from Suyu Station.

🅿️ There's no parking at Uisagye itself. 🅿️ I'd recommend the Changsam-dong Public Parking Lot No. 1.

An old-house café by Uicheon: the exterior and first floor

Uisagye in Chang-dong sits right in front of Uicheon stream, so it's a chimney bread dessert café with a great view 😄

Exterior of Uisagye, a renovated old house

The renovated old-house exterior was already pretty, and there are outdoor tables in a small garden too, which looked lovely for a nice-weather day.

Inside, the tools used to make chimney bread are displayed on the wall, which made it feel even more like a proper chimney bread spot.

The big windows let in lots of sunlight, and the wood-toned interior with the green trees outside was so pretty 💚

There are plenty of tables further into the first floor, and also tables and chairs across from the counter, so it's easy to sit for a moment after ordering.

Uisagye chimney bread menu and prices

Chimney bread (굴뚝빵, a rolled pastry baked in a chimney shape) at Uisagye runs from ₩5,500 for the original to ₩8,800 for the chimney gimbap. Here's how the menu board describes each item.

  • Original chimney bread ₩5,500 — light, chewy chimney bread made with high-quality Canadian flour
  • Cinnamon chimney bread ₩5,800 — a chimney bread with a subtle cinnamon scent balanced with sugar
  • Choco chimney bread ₩5,800 — full of the deep sweetness of Valrhona chocolate
  • Cheese chimney bread ₩6,000 — a light, savory chimney bread with rich cheese flavor
  • Sanghamokjang milk ice cream + chimney bread ₩8,500 — an unusual treat of warm bread with cold ice cream
  • Chimney gimbap ₩8,800 — a filling meal-sized chimney bread packed with Emmental cheese, jambon and arugula

Chimney bread is Uisagye's signature, and there's a nice range: original, cinnamon, cheese, choco, chimney gimbap and ice cream chimney bread.

The coffee and drink list is varied too, with several kinds of beans, and decaf is available, which I liked.

Besides chimney bread there are other desserts and drinks for kids, and I saw quite a few people bringing children.

The Uicheon view from the second-floor window at Uisagye

The second floor of Uisagye is all about the wood interior and the Uicheon view through the big windows. Going up the stairs, the interior looked even prettier in wood.

Wood-style interior of Uisagye's second floor

The second floor also has full-length windows, so you can see Uicheon at a glance outside. The view was so good.

Second-floor window overlooking Uicheon stream

Sitting by the window and looking out, I could see ducks on the stream, and the green scenery was so healing 🌿

There are lots of tables on the second floor and outdoor tables as well, which is great for sitting and looking outside.

Sanghamokjang ice cream chimney bread, switched to cinnamon

The Sanghamokjang (상하목장, an organic dairy brand) milk ice cream + chimney bread is ₩8,500, and switching to cinnamon or choco costs ₩300 more. My ice cream chimney bread and iced vanilla latte arrived, and the chimney bread was piping hot and looked so good 😊

Ice cream chimney bread and iced vanilla latte

Since the Sanghamokjang milk ice cream + chimney bread can be changed to cinnamon or choco, I ordered cinnamon.

Chimney bread is a big chimney-shaped bread, a traditional dessert mostly from Eastern Europe like the Czech Republic and Hungary, and I loved being able to eat a freshly made one here in Seoul.

Warm chimney-shaped cinnamon chimney bread

Uisagye's chimney bread is pastry-like, crisp outside and moist inside, so you can tear it along the layers. They gave me scissors, so I cut it up easily.

The first bite was crisp and chewy, so good, and the cinnamon and sugar coating gave a sweet, slightly bittersweet cinnamon aroma that I loved.

The Sanghamokjang milk ice cream came separately in a glass, which made it easier to eat, and it was rich, sweet and very milky, good enough to eat on its own 🍦

Dipping the warm cinnamon chimney bread into the ice cream was sweet and delicious. The crispy outside went really well with the cold ice cream.

What does Uisagye's decaf vanilla latte taste like?

The iced vanilla latte at Uisagye is ₩5,200, and switching to decaf beans adds ₩1,000. I ordered it with decaf beans.

Uisagye's decaf beans are a blend of Colombian and Guatemalan beans at 8:2, with 99% of the caffeine removed by Swiss Water processing. They're described as having a fragrant citrus acidity and the nutty sweetness of pistachio and peanut.

With 99% of the caffeine removed, it's good for people sensitive to caffeine, and the beans were nutty so the coffee itself was really good. It went well with the chimney bread too 💕

Uisagye has a pretty café interior and was a place where I could relax with the Uicheon view. With Eastern European-style chimney bread and delicious coffee, the desserts are great too, so I recommend Uisagye ❣
