Cheongna eel BBQ dinner for two with perilla pickle wraps: Songrimbok

In short

Songrimbok Jangeo is an all-you-can-eat freshwater eel and meat restaurant on the first floor of Elim Zone, Crystal-ro, in Cheongna, Incheon, near Cheongna Lake Park. On a dinner for two, the writer and her husband grilled thick eel with pork belly, pork neck and chicken neck over charcoal. The favorite combo was eel in teriyaki sauce topped with ginger strips and wrapped in pickled perilla leaves. With a spacious parking lot and group seating, Songrimbok Jangeo is a 100% revisit for family gatherings and work dinners.

Today I want to introduce a place that was hands-down the best restaurant I've been to recently. The weather's been so hot lately and I felt a bit low on energy, so my husband and I spent ages debating what to have for dinner. For days I'd been craving savory grilled eel, so I searched all over the Cheongna area and, like fate, found this place. Spoiler: the choice was absolutely perfect! I was so happy the whole time eating that I had to tell you all about it — a place like this exists in Cheongna now!

It's called "Songrimbok Jangeo," located on the 1st floor of Elim Zone, 78 Crystal-ro, Seo-gu, Incheon.

Why Songrimbok Jangeo stands out: unlimited eel and Korean BBQ together

Unlike typical eel restaurants that only serve eel by itself, Songrimbok Jangeo is a premium spot where you can enjoy top-grade eel along with unlimited meat! A lot of people worry that "unlimited refill" means lower quality — I was a bit skeptical myself at first. But the moment the food arrived, all those worries vanished. The eel was so thick and fresh that I gasped the second it hit the charcoal grill.

On top of that, the pork belly, pork neck, and even the chewy chicken neck were all excellent — the meat quality rivaled that of a dedicated meat restaurant, juicy and tender. Whenever I craved something savory alongside the eel, grilling these together was an absolutely fantastic combo.

How to eat eel at Songrimbok Jangeo: 3 tips for the charcoal grill

Let me share my little strategy for making delicious food even more delicious! At Songrimbok Jangeo, the key is grilling the eel until golden, then using teriyaki sauce, ginger strips, and perilla leaf pickles (kkaennip jangajji) together.

  • 1. Grill the eel until nicely golden — cook it on the grill so the outside is crispy and the inside stays moist. Since it's so fresh, there's zero fishy smell, just pure savory flavor.
  • 2. Combine the special sauce with ginger strips — dip the crispy-grilled eel in the special teriyaki sauce, top with fresh ginger strips, and wrap it in a perilla leaf pickle. It cuts the richness and leaves nothing but savory happiness in every bite.
  • 3. Refresh with meat and chicken neck — after enjoying the eel, grill some pork belly and chicken neck on the side of the grill. The chewy texture of the chicken neck especially is a real delicacy!

Being able to enjoy unlimited fresh eel, pork belly, pork neck, and chicken neck of this quality at such a fair price makes me wonder if the owner is even making any money.

Service and atmosphere at Songrimbok Jangeo

The eel was genuinely moving, but honestly what made the meal even more enjoyable was how kind the staff at Songrimbok Jangeo were. The owner's mindset really seems excellent — even the part-time staff went around the restaurant checking on every table as if they were the owner, treating everyone kindly. They swapped out the grill plates without being asked and brought over any side dishes we needed before we even had to say anything. Thanks to the friendly service, we finished the meal all the way to the last bite feeling well taken care of and in a great mood.

We're 100% coming back here, no question!

That's what my husband and I shouted as we walked out.
