Sokcho family café: cookie-topped Neorae Latte at Cafe Neorae

In short

Cafe Neorae (카페너래) is a bakery café with an Ulsanbawi rock view on Wonamhaksapyeong-gil in Sokcho, Gangwon. On a Sokcho trip with her husband and child, the writer had the signature Neorae Latte, tissue bread and an iced Americano by the 2nd-floor glass windows and on the 3rd-floor rooftop. The Neorae Latte, where you eat the cookie and cream first and then stir, and the mild, good-value tissue bread made Cafe Neorae memorable.

Cafe Neorae: a family-friendly café stop on a Sokcho trip with kids

Cafe Neorae (카페너래) is a bakery café on Wonamhaksapyeong-gil in Sokcho. My husband, our child and I stopped by during our Sokcho trip to take a break. The coffee was good and the view was great, too! When you travel you end up rushing around sightseeing, and then you need a moment to sit down, have a coffee, eat something sweet and just relax^^^

Cafe Neorae's 1st-floor bakery display and drink menu

When you open the door, the first thing you see is a long bakery display running down the middle of the shop. The golden-brown breads were neatly and hygienically arranged!

The drink menu in front of the counter had a wide range, from coffee to non-coffee drinks, ades and teas. Each item came with a good description, which helped us choose, haha! We ordered the signature Neorae Latte and an iced Americano, which goes perfectly with sweet bakery items.

Can you see Ulsanbawi from Cafe Neorae's 2nd floor?

Yes! Through the floor-to-ceiling windows on the 2nd floor, Ulsanbawi (Ulsan Rock) fills the view. After ordering we went upstairs, and the scenery made us say "wow" out loud!

Looking out, the grand Ulsanbawi fills your whole field of vision. The entire 2nd floor is open glass, so wherever you sit it feels open and never stuffy. That was Cafe Neorae in Sokcho.

What does "Neorae" mean?

The café's name, "Neorae" (너래), is a Gangwon-do dialect word for a "wide, big rock"! I'd been curious about the meaning, and once I learned the name was inspired by the majestic Ulsanbawi, the view outside felt even more special and emotional^_^

We ordered tissue bread, the signature Neorae Latte, and an iced Americano, which is always a winner!

The owner told us to eat the cookie and cream on top of the signature Neorae Latte first, then stir it and drink. It was pleasantly, moderately sweet. Whenever I visit a café I'm curious about the signature drink and end up ordering it~~

It wasn't overwhelmingly sweet, just a nice, happy sweetness! On a trip you walk and sightsee more than usual, so there's a moment when you need a sugar boost, and this was perfect^,^ If you like sweet drinks, it would go well with a dessert during your trip.

Is Cafe Neorae's tissue bread worth the price?

I liked the tissue bread even more because the price isn't burdensome. Best of all, it isn't too sweet and has a mild, plain flavor.

Some desserts are so sweet that you get tired of them after a few bites, but the tissue bread was easy to enjoy. It balanced well with the sweet Neorae Latte, and was also good alongside coffee.

And let's be honest, the price of café desserts matters too... These days some places charge quite a lot even for a single piece of bread, but the tissue bread at Cafe Neorae in Sokcho was satisfying for the price. Highly recommended!

How is the iced Americano at Cafe Neorae?

The iced Americano had a clean taste, with the acidity and nuttiness of the beans nicely balanced, something anyone can enjoy without any strong likes or dislikes. You can't skip coffee, so we ordered it too.

Cafe Neorae's 3rd-floor rooftop

On the 3rd floor of Cafe Neorae there's a rooftop where you can relax with an open view. It was a nice place to get some fresh air, enjoy the scenery and rest for a while during our Sokcho trip.

Why Cafe Neorae suits a Sokcho trip with kids

Cafe Neorae, which we stopped at on our Sokcho trip, was perfect:) It has a wonderful Ulsanbawi view, tasty bakery items that are very satisfying for the price, and a signature drink that's great for a sweet sugar boost. If you want to spend a relaxing time looking at beautiful scenery in Sokcho with your child or your loved ones, I really recommend stopping by Cafe Neorae in Sokcho!
