Sokcho café with a bamboo indoor garden & Neorae Pudding: Cafe Neorae

In short

Cafe Neorae (카페너래) is a large café with an Ulsanbawi rock view on Wonamhaksapyeong-gil, the sundubu (soft tofu) street in Sokcho, Gangwon. After a meal there, the writer tried the Neorae Latte, Neorae Pudding with Biji Crunchy topping, a Chodang sweet corn latte and an iced Americano, and explored Cafe Neorae's bamboo, gravel and stepping-stone indoor garden and its rooftop view. If you want biji (soy pulp) signature drinks and desserts with a Seoraksan view, Cafe Neorae is well worth a stop.

After a meal on our Sokcho trip, we went looking for a café. We wanted somewhere big with a good view, and what we found was "Cafe Neorae." It turned out even better than we expected! 🥰

Overview of Cafe Neorae in Sokcho

The name "Neorae" comes from a Gangwon-do dialect word for a wide, large rock. It carries the idea of a space that resembles the grand rocky peaks of Seoraksan, so even the name feels stylish.

Where is Cafe Neorae in Sokcho and how are the floors laid out?

Cafe Neorae is a large café on Wonamhaksapyeong-gil in Sokcho, with a 2nd floor, a 3rd floor and a rooftop. It sits on a street full of sundubu (soft tofu stew) restaurants, so it's perfect for a stop after a meal!

Exterior of Cafe Neorae on Wonamhaksapyeong-gil

The exterior combines red brick with floor-to-ceiling glass for a stylish, solid look, and inside, every floor has a completely different mood, so it was fun just wandering around!! The 2nd floor is the bakery and ordering area, the 3rd floor is the main hall with big windows, and the 4th floor is the rooftop.

Cafe Neorae's bamboo indoor garden and rooftop Ulsanbawi view

The building has an indoor garden decorated with bamboo, pebbles and stepping stones, so there are really a lot of photo spots. 💙

On a clear day you can see Ulsanbawi and the Seoraksan ridgeline in a panorama from the rooftop. The day we visited was a little cloudy, but we could still see them well.

Cafe Neorae menu and prices

The signature items are all ₩7,500, and drinks are mostly in the ₩6,000–7,000 range. The signature drinks are made with biji (the soy pulp left over from making tofu), which I found fascinating.

What's unique is that Cafe Neorae's signature drinks use biji from the Chodang area of Sokcho.

Neorae Latte: cream with nutty biji (soy pulp)

The Neorae Latte brings together smooth cream and nutty biji, and it tasted nutty and rich all the way through. 😂

Neorae Pudding with the Biji Crunchy topping

The Neorae Pudding is like a soft, sweet banana pudding, pretty to look at and satisfying as a dessert. You can choose a topping, and I went with Biji Crunchy! It comes with biji cream and cinnamon. Personally, I highly recommend it together with the Neorae Latte!

Chodang sweet corn latte and iced Americano

The Chodang sweet corn latte is sweet with a subtle corn aroma, which suited the Sokcho trip mood well. 🩷 The iced Americano was clean and decent, nothing fancy.

The bakery doesn't have a huge variety, but it had solid picks like tissue bread and salt bread, and they looked delicious just to look at. If I hadn't been so full, I would have eaten some.. haha

Tips for visiting Cafe Neorae in Sokcho
