Yangyang sashimi takeout with instant rice and drinks: Eosiljang

I just got back from a trip to Yangyang~ And when you go to Yangyang, dinner has to be sashimi, right? This time I wanted to eat comfortably at our lodging instead of at a restaurant, so I got takeout. The place I went to is Eosiljang Sashimi Takeout (어실장회포장), a great sashimi takeout spot in Yangyang.

Eosiljang sells an assorted sashimi platter that's just right for two people, starting at ₩50,000. The portions were generous and the taste was good, so I'm happy to introduce it to you!

Where is Eosiljang Sashimi Takeout, and what are its hours?

The address is 1717-23 Donghae-daero, Sonyang-myeon, Yangyang-gun, Gangwon. The shop's own directions use Seolhaewon in Yangyang as the landmark, so it's easy to find coming from that side.

Even at night the signboard is brightly lit, so I found it quickly.

• Mon–Fri 15:00 – 22:00
• Sat–Sun 14:30 – 22:00

However, they say Monday to Thursday hours can change depending on the day's catch. If you're visiting on a weekday, be sure to call before you go.

Inside the shop and menu prices

Since Eosiljang is takeout only, the shop is on the small side. There are a few tables where you can sit while waiting for your order, and there's a water purifier too.

How do you place a pre-order?

At Eosiljang you order ahead by phone, Naver or a delivery app and then go pick it up. There's a notice about how to order in front of the takeout counter, and since it's popular, make sure you pre-order before you go!

Assorted sashimi for two and other menu prices

These are the prices I confirmed on the menu board.

• Assorted sashimi: 2 people ₩50,000 / 3 people ₩75,000
• There are also separate menus for flatfish and rockfish, and flatfish only
• Abalone, sea squirt: ₩10,000 each
• Mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), hoedeopbap (raw fish rice bowl): ₩15,000 each
• Maeuntang (spicy fish stew): uncooked ₩8,000 / cooked ₩10,000

Eosiljang also sells Hetbahn (instant rice) instead of plain bowls of rice, plus drinks and alcohol, so it was handy to grab everything in one go, like a grocery run.

What the assorted sashimi for two includes, and how it tastes

I took the assorted sashimi for two back to the lodging. When I opened the bag, there were two sashimi trays, plus wrap greens, seaweed and sauce, all packed carefully.

The platter had a nice variety, from white fish to pieces with a bit of red flesh mixed in. The thickness was just right for a good chew, and it was clean with no fishy smell. On top of the sashimi, it also came with shrimp, abalone and sea squirt, so the spread was really generous.

The sides were all there too: garlic, chili peppers, pickled garlic stems, rakkyo (pickled scallions), pickled radish and lemon. I put a piece of sashimi on lettuce and a perilla leaf, topped it with garlic and chili, and wrapped it up. Honestly, it was heavenly.

Eating it wrapped in seaweed was a treat too, so we alternated, and the two of us finished it in no time 😋 The amount was just right for two, a good set for dinner and a drink together.

Tip for a far-away lodging, and final thoughts

Eosiljang also has a notice that if your trip after pickup is long, about 1 hour, they'll pack extra ice. If your lodging is a bit far, it's a good idea to mention it when you order.

To sum up, Eosiljang is a great Yangyang sashimi takeout spot: the assorted platter for two starts at ₩50,000, so it's easy on the wallet, and the spread is generous.
