I wanted a meal somewhere with a nice atmosphere, so I headed to Upstairs Kitchen Bamridan-gil Branch (업스테어키친 밤리단길점). It's known for steak, so I went with high hopes, but one dish ended up winning me over even more: the bacon cream gnocchi. The steak was good too, but the gnocchi was so tasty that I already want to go back.
How to get to Upstairs Kitchen Bamridan-gil Branch, and parking

The restaurant is about a 15-minute walk from Jeongbalsan Station on Line 3. There is parking in front of the restaurant, room for roughly 5 cars, so keep that in mind if you're driving.
I live fairly close, so this time I took my time and walked. It's near enough that it felt like a casual stroll. A tasty meal plus a relaxed walk made it a good day.
A good atmosphere for a date on Bamridan-gil

Inside, the first things I noticed were the warm lighting and wooden tables. The paintings on the walls fit the space well, and I liked the sunlight coming in by the windows, so I'd recommend it as a date spot on Bamridan-gil.

The mood isn't flashy or overwhelming, so it was comfortable to eat in. It also looked fine for a meal with friends or a special occasion. If you're looking for a date spot on Bamridan-gil, it's worth considering for the atmosphere alone.
Upstairs Kitchen menu and prices

The menu was varied, from appetizers to pasta, risotto and steak. This time I ordered bruschetta for ₩6,000, a 300g sirloin steak for ₩54,000 and bacon cream gnocchi for ₩23,000.
Since I came for Ilsan steak, I built the order around the steak and decided to try the gnocchi I'd been curious about too.

Iced Americano and bruschetta before the meal

Before the food came out, I started with a cold iced Americano. It was a nice, relaxed way to wait for the meal.

The bruschetta (₩6,000), my starter, came with cream cheese, eggplant, tomato sauce and basil on bread. The red tomato sauce and green basil looked vivid and appetizing.

The bread and soft cream cheese blended with the tomato sauce, and the basil aroma on top really got my appetite going.

It's a starter, so I didn't expect much, but I enjoyed this too. Worth a look if you want to try a range of dishes, appetizers included, at a Bamridan-gil restaurant.
How was the 300g sirloin steak, cooked medium?

For the main, I ordered the Upstairs Kitchen sirloin steak, 300g (₩54,000), cooked medium. The plate came with bite-sized sliced meat, roasted potatoes, broccoli, whole-grain mustard and a chili wasabi sauce.

The inside was medium, still a bit red, and the meat was tender and easy to chew. There were several sauces, so I could pair them to taste.

If you're after Ilsan steak, order the doneness you like best. Overall it was a solid, satisfying main.
Bacon cream gnocchi, much tastier than expected

The dish I remember most from this meal was the bacon cream gnocchi (₩23,000). Golden-seared gnocchi came topped with cheese and herbs, in a generous bacon cream sauce.
The rich cream sauce and the smoky bacon went together well, and I kept reaching for more gnocchi with the sauce.

If you're hunting for Ilsan gnocchi and can't decide where to go, keep this place in mind. I was most excited about the steak at first, but the gnocchi stuck with me more.

Personally, I'd go back to Upstairs Kitchen just for this dish, and I plan to order it again next time. Steak and gnocchi together made a good combination.
