Stumbling on Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch during a Yeonnam-dong outing
Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch (만동제과 연남점) is a Yeonnam-dong bakery I found by accident while out with a friend around Yeonnam-dong and Hongdae. We had lunch, then wandered slowly through the Hongdae streets, chatting and looking around, and that's when we found it!!
I got to spend a day out in Seoul with a friend for the first time in ages, haha. The weather is so nice lately, the sky is clear, the sun is hot haha, but the shade is cool, and maybe because it's been so long since I came to Seoul, I felt fresh and happy. Let me introduce a bakery that looks so stylish and so Hongdae from the outside.

Parking and how to use Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch
Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch has no parking lot of its own, so use a nearby public or paid parking lot.

Sadly, there's no eating inside. It's takeout only. It's a bakery, after all~
Wow.. the smell of bread hits you the moment you walk in.. and the variety is huge. If you love bread, you'll be in heaven as soon as you step inside!

Do the staff offer samples at Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch?
Yes, the staff offer samples as soon as you walk in. The staff were really friendly, and every sample I tried was so good that I ended up putting into my tray whatever they gave me, haha.

The pumpkin ciabatta! Let me introduce my number-one pick. This is the one I got as a sample and immediately put in my tray haha. They said it's a new item.

There's a "butt" bread too, lol. It looks like it'd be a little squishy. The chestnut-red bean-mugwort one looks super tasty too.

Mugwort rice cake bread (쑥떡쑥떡), they gave me a sample of this too, and it's totally my style.
How much is the bread at Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch?
The breads are quite big, yet they start at ₩3,000 and run through ₩4,000 and ₩5,000~ great value!! Everything on display looks delicious.. and it seems generously filled.
Just taste samples along the way and buy as you go~

The garlic bread seems really famous too haha. Garlic bread aside.. honestly everything looked delicious. Choosing is so hard.

The 4 breads I picked with my friend
- Chestnut loaf (밤식빵) ₩4,900
- Pumpkin ciabatta ₩6,200
- Pretzel ₩5,000
- Kaya coconut bread ₩4,500

Order the garlic baguette at the counter
At Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch, they say that if you tell the counter you want the garlic baguette, onion bagel, basil tomato, cucumber baguette or cappuccino bread, they'll pack it for you. Yep, that's what they said.

Eek haha, walking around with the shopping bag, I felt like everyone was looking at me haha. Even the shopping bag alone gives Mandong Jegwa a Hongdae, Yeonnam-dong famous-spot vibe.

Is the Mandong Jegwa pretzel heart-shaped with cream cheese inside?
The Mandong Jegwa pretzel (₩5,000) is heart-shaped with cream cheese added inside. Personally, this one is totally my style! Being heart-shaped, it's so cute just to look at.
It has that chewy pretzel texture, and it's nutty and soft! With the cream cheese inside, ㅠㅠ it's so good.

What does the new pumpkin ciabatta taste like?
The Mandong Jegwa pumpkin ciabatta (₩6,200) was cut up as a sample by a staff member, and I took one bite and grabbed it right away. They said it's a new item, and I really recommend it.

Cream cheese in between.. and pumpkin filling packed in.. First, I love the plain, chewy texture ciabatta is known for, and the sweet pumpkin ㅠㅠ is so good.

Kaya coconut bread for your morning coffee
The Mandong Jegwa kaya coconut bread (₩4,500) looks simple, but once I tried it, what a twist!! It's sweet and full of coconut aroma. I bought this one to have with coffee in the morning ㅠㅠ. It's appealing enough even without any special toppings.

Would I recommend Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch for a Yeonnam-dong bakery crawl?
I only came by chance, but I was really happy with Mandong Jegwa Yeonnam Branch. Fresh bread baked every day, reasonable, good-value prices, and friendly samples that make choosing bread easy. If you're planning a bakery crawl in Yeonnam-dong, definitely stop by!! You'll see right away why it's famous as a Yeonnam-dong bakery and Hongdae favorite. Recommended!
