You can't visit Pohang without having ice-cold mulhoe (raw fish in cold broth)! This time I went to Ppwang Mulhoe, a mulhoe restaurant in Pohang's Duho-dong known for its clean facilities and generous portions, right by Yeongildae Beach.

Where is Ppwang Mulhoe, and where do you park?
Ppwang Mulhoe sits right on the beachfront of Yeongildae Beach, so even from inside the restaurant you get a lovely ocean view! The sign is clean and easy to spot too.
Parking is available right in front of Ppwang Mulhoe. If there's no spot, there's a public parking lot across the road, so no need to worry about parking~
Is the unlimited self-bar at Ppwang Mulhoe for real? A Pohang Duho-dong restaurant that wins you over with sheer generosity

Ppwang Mulhoe runs an unlimited self-bar, and it was even more packed than on my last visit? Plus the food itself was on point, so being able to try mulhoe along with a bunch of other dishes was really satisfying.
Ppwang Mulhoe's atmosphere: ocean view, folding doors and the wait

Since the weather was cool, Ppwang Mulhoe had the folding doors open, so you could see the Yeongildae sea clearly and just get lost in the weather~ I went for an early lunch, but there were already a lot of customers. By the time I finished eating and left, there was even a wait.

How to eat mulhoe at Ppwang Mulhoe
With Ppwang Mulhoe, you first mix the fresh raw fish with the gochujang sauce, then add the icy broth to taste. Here are the tips summed up!
- Add minced chili or wasabi from the self-bar for a spicier, sharper kick
- Add the noodles from the self-bar and mix them in for extra deliciousness
- Finish with rice mixed in for a hearty, complete meal~
What we ordered at Ppwang Mulhoe

From the Ppwang Mulhoe menu, we ordered the signature Ppwang Mulhoe, packed with fresh raw fish and seafood delivered that day, and the half-and-half mulhoe large size, loaded with flounder and squid.

And a nice touch I spotted on the way to the self-bar~!! You know how women always need a hair tie while eating? Ppwang Mulhoe even keeps hair ties at the counter! You could really feel the owner's thoughtfulness and sense of care.
What's on Ppwang Mulhoe's unlimited self-serve bar?

Ppwang Mulhoe's self-serve corner is stocked just as generously as the main dish. From tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) to fried snacks!! The sweet-and-spicy tteokbokki is as good as a dedicated snack shop's, perfect for curbing hunger before the mulhoe arrives or for eating with kids!

There's chewy somyeon noodles to mix into your mulhoe and neatly arranged side dishes kept hygienically, so you can enjoy as much as you like without feeling shortchanged. Wasabi, gochujang, and chili are all there too, so add to taste.

Squid soup, the self-serve bar highlight at Ppwang Mulhoe
The standout dish on the self-bar at this Pohang Duho-dong mulhoe restaurant is the squid soup. There's hot, clear, refreshing squid soup set out, and you just ladle it yourself — sipping it between bites of the cold, spicy mulhoe warms you up and mellows out the spice. Really nice.

With the food from the self-corner and Ppwang Mulhoe's main dish, the mulhoe, it's a perfect spread.

Ppwang Mulhoe is the peak of mulhoe visuals~ Packed with raw fish, packed with seafood, so satisfying all around.
How does the signature Ppwang Mulhoe with three seafoods taste?

The signature Ppwang Mulhoe is loaded with three kinds of seafood: sea cucumber, sea squirt, and abalone. Ppwang Mulhoe is also famous for its squid mulhoe, right? But the seafood here was just as fresh, so it was a really delicious dish.

No fishy taste at all, just fresh, and the seasoning wasn't harsh, just spicy in a satisfying way! Mixing it in the gochujang it came with, then adding the icy broth and noodles — clean and perfect!!
Large half-and-half flounder and squid mulhoe: how much raw fish?

Take a look at the amount of raw fish in Ppwang Mulhoe's half-and-half large size~ There's a huge amount in there. Piles of fresh raw fish, chewy yet tender — a genius texture, you could say.

Mix it with the sweet-and-spicy gochujang and add the slushy icy broth, and the combination of crunchy cucumber, pear, and seafood is amazing.

After eating some of the raw fish, add the chewy somyeon noodles and slurp them up, then finish with rice mixed in for the perfect full course.
Why Ppwang Mulhoe is a good mulhoe pick near Yeongildae Beach
Ppwang Mulhoe won me over not just with the fresh raw fish and the springy squid, but with the self-bar packed with fried snacks, tteokbokki, and squid soup! The half-and-half mulhoe in the large size delivered on both texture and portion, and the clean atmosphere made the meal even more enjoyable while traveling.
