Euljiro snack bar for a late-lunch instant tteokbokki: Hyeonseoni-ne

Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch is an old-school snack bar in an alley by Cheonggyecheon in Jung-gu, Seoul, where diners cook instant tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cakes) themselves at outdoor tables. For a late lunch, Hyeonseoni-ne served two servings of mild-spice instant tteokbokki with curly odeng (fish cake), simmered until the broth reduced, then fried rice stirred into what was left in the pan. The mild level still has a gentle kick but stays easy for spice-shy eaters, making Hyeonseoni-ne a great open-air snack spot on a nice day.
