Gwangmyeong baby octopus with kids, spicy sauce on the side: Jeongipum

Jeongipum Jjukkumi Gwangmyeong 1st Branch is a griddle baby octopus (jjukkumi) restaurant a 5-minute walk from Gwangmyeong Station in Gyeonggi. On a weekday at 5 pm, a family of three walked in with no wait. They ordered the griddle baby octopus with extras and Black Angus beef brisket for 2 at the mildest spice level and asked for the spicy sauce on the side. The child happily ate a make-your-own flying fish roe rice ball and a free steamed egg. With savory minari (water dropwort) and baby octopus, Jeongipum Jjukkumi is a good stop with kids on the way to IKEA Gwangmyeong.

Gwanghwamun sushi restaurant with a kid on Hangul Day: Choe Uyeong

Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch (최우영스시야 종로점) is a good-value sushi and Japanese restaurant near Jonggak Station in Jongno, Seoul. On the Hangul Day holiday at 5 p.m., a parent and child ordered mixed sashimi, a special kaisendon (seafood rice bowl), giant shrimp tempura udon and 5 pieces of sushi by the piece, then took the generous leftovers home in a ₩1,000 takeout container. Because a child who doesn't eat raw fish can still share the udon, Choe Uyeong Sushiya is a Gwanghwamun sushi spot where parents and kids can eat well together.

Psyche is a 100% reservation-only private-room restaurant in Chojeon-dong, Jinju, specializing in special cuts of hanwoo (Korean beef). Dining with her parents in a private room, the writer started with abalone porridge and a salmon steak salad, then tried jebichuri for the first time (3 servings) and finished with 2 servings of seafood doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew). With quiet rooms and jebichuri that isn't greasy, Psyche is an easy pick for taking your parents out for beef in Chojeon-dong, Jinju.

Jinju naengmyeon restaurant packed in August, four dishes: Songgiwon

Songgiwon Jinju Naengmyeon Direct Store is a Jinju naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodle) restaurant at 49 Cheonsu-ro in Jinju, Gyeongnam. For a group tasting Jinju's local dishes on a hot day, Songgiwon made a satisfying one-stop meal.
