A really great Jeju spot to visit with family The combo of well-fermented aged kimchi and mackerel is the best! Unlimited refills of various side dishes and fresh ssam vegetables The massive 3,000-pyeong outdoor flower garden is gorgeous A must-visit Korean restaurant on any Jeju trip Definitely coming back next time *^^*
I stumbled onto this place by chance this time, fell in love with the food, and already promised my family we'd come back! When you search for this place, flowers show up instead of food — and once I visited, I understood why haha. I went with my parents and we were completely satisfied, so this is a genuine recommendation. Let's get into the post.
Where is Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap? Parking and the 3,000-pyeong flower garden
Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap is located at 1240 Iljuseo-ro, Seogwipo-si, Jeju. The location is great — perfect to fit into your route if you're touring the Jungmun tourist complex or the Andeok-myeon area.
The highlight here is the flowers blooming right from the entrance... ha... aren't they pretty?!?!❤️ Compared to photos from people who visited in May there weren't as many blooms, but it was still beautiful. The scent was amazing too.
The property here is really, REALLY big, you know? There's an annex visible in the back too, so you don't need to worry about parking at all.
The real highlight of this place is the massive outdoor garden built next to the restaurant! It's a beautiful garden spanning thousands of pyeong, rivaling a proper arboretum or botanical garden, packed with all kinds of flowers with a wonderful fragrance.

This pink rose in particular had an amazing scent. I thought, it'd be great if there was a perfume like this... haha. There's a garden in front of the restaurant, but there's one in the back too, so there's plenty to see. It was the perfect spot to take some life shots strolling before or after your meal! I bet it's amazing when the flowers are in full bloom.
Waiting area and souvenir corner
Once inside, there were chairs to sit and wait if there was a wait. Luckily, we didn't have to wait.

On the other side there's a coffee machine and a space to buy souvenirs. If it were me, I'd register on Catch Table, browse the souvenirs, and spend some time looking at the outdoor garden. Waiting wouldn't be boring at all, haha.

Inside Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap: seating and atmosphere
The restaurant was spacious with high ceilings! There were plenty of seats, but most were reserved... Looks empty, right? It's not. It filled up really fast lolllll. About 20 minutes after we arrived, there was already a wait.
Most of the views out the windows were of flowers, which was so healing.
There were lots of signatures hung on one wall — the most surprising one was Nobel Physics Prize winner Pierre Agostini lolllll. Wow... how did he end up here? So interesting.
Menu and prices: the four-person set for 72,000 won

At Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap you order via the tablet at your table and pay at the counter on your way out. The signature menu here is the set that comes with aged kimchi braised mackerel and abalone hot-pot rice — order it per person and you can enjoy an incredibly generous, stomach-bursting meal. Since we came as a family of four, we ordered the aged kimchi braised mackerel + abalone hot-pot rice (4-person) for 72,000 won (18,000 won per person)! We also added makgeolli and cider.

The rice paddle they ask you to bring to the counter when paying was cute too! Chunky and adorable haha.
The self-serve ssam vegetable and side dish bar
They bring the basic side dishes and ssam wraps to your table, but the fresh ssam vegetables and neatly arranged side dishes can be freely taken from the self-serve bar — I felt this was really excellent value!
There are other side dishes at the self-serve bar besides the basics, so feel free to grab more, haha. We loaded up on our favorites too. So colorful and pretty~

There was also doenjang soup, homemade sikhye (sweet rice drink), and japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) off to one side, so we grabbed those too. Delicious, delicious~

Cheers with makgeolli using the side dishes as anju (drinking snacks) before the main dish arrived — clink~~~ kah~~~ This was my first time trying this Hallasan makgeolli, and it was pretty tasty too, haha.
How do the aged-kimchi mackerel and abalone hot-pot rice taste?

The main dish arrives while you're still munching on side dishes! A whole head of long-simmered aged kimchi goes into a big hot pot, with plump, meaty mackerel piled generously underneath *^^*
Looks like it's just kimchi, right? There's a mountain of mackerel underneath. Finishing it all really made my stomach feel like it would burst... haha. The aged kimchi was well-fermented, not sour, with a deep, spicy umami that was excellent. My family's kimchi is genuinely delicious, and this tasted exactly like a kimchi-jjim made with kimchi like ours. Totally my type!

At first we cut it up with scissors lolllll, but then my dad said you're supposed to tear this kind of thing apart by hand, so we all tore it apart with our hands together.
Put a scoop of rice on a fresh ssam vegetable, top it with a piece of mackerel and well-fermented aged kimchi, wrap it up big and take a bite... aah... this is happiness!

My dad tearing the kimchi apart in strips. Wrapped up with this kimchi and mackerel flesh, it's a total rice thief — ㅜㅜ a flavor you could keep eating forever♡♡
The mackerel had no fishy taste at all, with soft, clean flesh — a flavor even people who don't usually eat fish could enjoy.
The abalone hot-pot rice that comes with it is also a highlight here! Abalone stir-fried with its own innards is piled generously on top of the hot-pot rice.
The rice itself is so delicious that even without the mackerel or kimchi, just putting plain rice on a sheet of gim (dried seaweed) and dipping it in soy sauce makes for a really, really tasty bite.

Since the ssam vegetables are unlimited, we kept grabbing more in between and enjoyed it without feeling awkward — that was the best part.
They pour hot water into the hot pot to make a savory scorched-rice tea (nurungji) at the end, so you can enjoy every last bit down to the finish.
Is Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap worth a visit?
A place where you can enjoy a generous, neatly served Korean meal along with an outdoor garden full of pretty flowers! Looks great to visit as a family! I'm definitely coming back!

'Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap' is a must-visit Jeju spot with a neat, generous spread that anyone of any age would love, plus a huge outdoor garden. If you're bringing your parents or traveling with family or friends and want to enjoy a proper Korean meal along with some pretty photos, I highly recommend visiting!
