Jeju Korean restaurant breakfast with kids: Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi

In short

Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi is a Korean restaurant near Hyeopjae Beach in Jeju. I visited for breakfast with my 38-month-old child and tried bomal hangover soup, beef tripe soup, and the children’s hangover soup. The soups had distinct flavors, and the child-friendly tableware and high chair made the meal convenient.

On the second day of our Jeju trip, I went to Hyeopjae On Ttukbaegi (협재온뚝배기) for breakfast with my 38-month-old child. It is near Hyeopjae Beach, and the children’s menu was one reason we chose to visit.

What time does it open for breakfast, and where can you park?

The hours listed in the original post were 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with a break time from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. It was listed as closed every Monday. Takeout is also available.

I parked in a public parking lot about one minute from the restaurant. There was no parking fee at the time of my visit, and the lot was spacious, making it easy to park.

What are the atmosphere and ordering process like?

While we ate, customers who greeted the owner came in. We ordered on a tablet, and the restroom inside the restaurant was clean.

The menu included bomal hangover soup, abalone and dried pollack soup, soft tofu, Korean beef tripe soup and hangover soup, and children’s hangover soup. There were also explanations of the broth types, which made choosing easier.

The restaurant was compact and clean. Even early in the morning, customers kept coming in.

What side dishes come with the meal, and can you get more?

The side dishes were napa cabbage kimchi, seasoned seaweed stems, dongchimi (radish water kimchi), and salted seafood. I thought the napa cabbage kimchi went well with the clear broth, while the seaweed stems and dongchimi paired well with the spicy broth.

You could add chili peppers and garlic to suit your taste.

For additional side dishes, you can get them from the self-serve corner. Even while busy with many customers, I saw the staff replenishing the dishes and wiping down the area.

How were the children’s tableware and children’s hangover soup?

There was a high chair, and they prepared separate tableware for my child. They also gave us roasted seaweed, so my child initially ate rice wrapped in seaweed.

The children’s hangover soup was ₩6,000. It was more generous than I expected, with plenty of Korean beef, bean sprouts, and glass noodles.

When I tried it, the seasoning was well balanced and the meat was tender. The broth in particular was rich. My child, who had been eating rice wrapped in seaweed, eventually finished all of the children’s hangover soup.

How did the bomal hangover soup and tripe soup differ in flavor and price?

How was the bomal hangover soup with clear broth?

The Jeju bomal hangover soup was ₩13,000. Its clean flavor from the clear broth stood out, and it contained bomal (small sea snails) and large shrimp. The color combination of the ingredients also looked appealing.

Was the Korean beef tripe soup very spicy?

The premium Korean beef tripe soup was ₩12,000. I was told that adding minced garlic would give it a deeper flavor, so I added a generous amount.

It had plenty of ingredients and was not as spicy as it looked. Even for me, someone who does not handle spicy food well, it was moderately spicy with a pleasant kick.

Sharing the clear bomal hangover soup and the spicy tripe soup let us enjoy two different broths. I liked choosing these two dishes to share with the person I was with.

My 38-month-old child also left feeling full after breakfast. With a children’s menu and tableware available, it was convenient to eat with a child.
