In short

Jongdal Sudatteul (종달수다뜰) is a Jeju-style Korean set-meal restaurant on Yongnunioreum-ro in Jongdal-ri, Gujwa-eup, Jeju, where dogs are allowed if you bring a carrier. The writer and her husband ordered the 13-dish Jeju set meal, paid ₩4,000 more per person (₩29,000) to swap the braised mackerel for braised hairtail, and tried braised hairtail, grilled hairtail, seafood ttukbaegi (earthenware pot stew), dombe-gogi (boiled pork slices) and soy-marinated abalone. A place this good, only 3-4 minutes from our home, and we never knew! Jongdal Sudatteul sits in Jongdal-ri on the way to Seongsan, so it's a great spot for a meal before heading to Seongsan Ilchulbong 🤗

How much is the Jeju set meal with hairtail stew instead of mackerel?

Menu at Jongdal Sudatteul

We ordered the "Jeju set meal (13-dish table)" (제주한정식). For just ₩4,000 more per person you can swap the braised mackerel for braised hairtail, so that's what we did. With the extra ₩4,000 it comes to ₩29,000, which feels like a really good price these days 😀

The Jeju set meal (13-dish table) includes grilled hairtail, dombe-gogi (boiled pork slices), braised mackerel, seafood ttukbaegi (earthenware pot stew), soy-marinated abalone and soy-marinated crab. It's a set where you can also enjoy things like fresh kimchi (geotjeori) and seasonal vegetable sides every day!

  • Recommended restaurant by the Rural Development Administration in 2014
  • Selected as one of the Top 30 Jeju restaurants by Korit and the Jeju Tourism Organization in 2017
  • Featured on 2TV's Saengsaeng Jeongbo Tong episode 1145 (2020.09.08) for its whole grilled hairtail set

With a track record like that, you can eat here with confidence, haha

13-dish Jeju set meal with braised hairtail swapped in

It has such a warm, grandma's-house feel,, 🤍 Jeju-style side dishes, braised hairtail, grilled hairtail and dombe-gogi all on one table! And everything came out so neatly, which I loved, haha

How were the braised and grilled hairtail at Jongdal Sudatteul?

🐟 Braised hairtail

The braised hairtail came with big, plump pieces of fish, so it was really satisfying to eat! The flesh came off easily with just a touch of chopsticks, and there was no fishy smell at all, just clean flavor! The sauce was salty but full of savory depth, and sauce plus rice was just amaz,, ing!!!! 👍

🐟 Grilled hairtail

Look at my husband's hairtail deboning skills~ The grilled hairtail was golden brown~ with crispy skin and moist flesh, perfect with rice 🍚 It's plain yet nutty and really.. not salty at all! Order another bowl of rice!

How were the seafood stew, dombe-gogi and soy-marinated abalone?

🦀 Seafood ttukbaegi

Ahh~ so spicy and hot! The seafood ttukbaegi has a clean doenjang (soybean paste) base packed with radish, so you get a cool vegetable broth plus fresh blue crab and clams, and the soup was so deep and rich I almost ordered soju.. hahahaha A bite of grilled hairtail, then a bite of the stew, pure heaven! 🤩

🐷 Dombe-gogi (boiled pork slices)

The dombe-gogi had tender skin, and the meat wasn't dry at all, just mild and full of juice! Piling the various side dishes onto the lettuce wraps they gave us was really, truly delicious!

🦑 Soy-marinated abalone & salted squid

The soy-marinated abalone comes as a standard dish, and it was huge! Salty, with a springy texture that filled my mouth, so good. And the salted squid (ojingeo jeotgal) is totally my style 🤍 The squid's texture plus the savory seasoning, absolutely the best!!

How do you get the Gujwa carrot juice after the meal?

Gujwa carrot juice at Jongdal Sudatteul

At Jongdal Sudatteul, if you write a review after your meal they give you a Gujwa carrot juice too, so I recommend writing one and getting it! The very sweet carrot flavor fills your mouth, it's the best, haha 🥕👩‍🌾

Today I visited Jongdal Sudatteul, a hairtail stew and grilled hairtail spot full of the freshness of the Jeju sea! 🐟 It was a place where we could enjoy a hearty, varied taste of Jeju at a reasonable price. If you're traveling to Jeju with your dog or looking for a good restaurant in the east, I recommend it!
