Namhansanseong drive café near Bundang: Peach Green Angel tea at Sum
In short
Sum (카페 숨) is a large bakery café in Namhansanseong-myeon, Gwangju, Gyeonggi, set in two connected buildings with floor-to-ceiling forest views, a ground-floor music listening room and an outdoor terrace. On a weekday visit around 3 p.m., most of Sum's bread had sold out, and the order was mugwort black sesame bread, pure milk cake, an iced Americano and Peach Green Angel tea. Sum is a quiet, green-view drive café about 30 minutes from Bundang, good for clearing your head.

Weekends are too crowded for me to ever make it to Namhansanseong, so I took a casual weekday afternoon drive instead! Today's destination is Sum (숨), a Namhansanseong café that's an easy escape from Bundang.

The air is full of the smell of green leaves!! It's about 30 minutes by car from Jeongja Station, so it's perfect for a weekend drive or a trip after work on a weekday. Let's go, review time!
What are the floor-to-ceiling windows at Sum like?

What I liked the moment I arrived at Sum was the wide-open floor-to-ceiling window view that stretches far into the forest. Wow.. 👍👍

Very much a big Gwangju café, right?? The building is huge..! At first I wondered where the café even ends, but it turns out it's two buildings connected together. I visited around 3 p.m. on a weekday and it was quiet with hardly anyone there, a perfect mood for a relaxed break.

Step through the door and a jaw-dropping full-window view opens up. Please go on a day with nice weather, ㅠㅠ it's so healing..

Tucked into the mountains and looking at the lush green trees, I felt all my stress just disappear. With that clean mountain air and smell, I thought, I've totally found a healing spot. ✨

Interior, music listening room and outdoor terrace
Sum is spacious overall and even has a second floor, so it feels airy! They seem to have put a lot of thought into the interior, and the music listening room on the ground floor of the connected building has a really nice vibe. It's a perfect place to sit quietly, zone out and listen to songs!
There's also an outdoor terrace outside, so on a nice day like these, just sitting in a terrace seat is a proper change of mood.

It's a bit too hot to sit outside these days, but this is an outdoor café that's ideal for spring and autumn... so good 👍 It seems dogs are allowed too! It'd be lovely to bring a puppy.
Is there still bread left after a weekday lunch?
Sum is also famous as a bakery café, but even though I went just after weekday lunch, almost all the bread was gone and I was flustered.;; When I asked the owner, he said customers buy it up in the morning and it all sells out.. oh well.

Ordering mugwort black sesame bread, pure milk cake and drinks
Making the best of it, I picked the "Uri Ssuk Heugimja Bread" (우리쑥흑임자빵, Korean mugwort and black sesame bread) and the "Pure Milk Cake" from what was left! For drinks, I ordered an iced Americano and a refreshing Peach Green Angel tea.

The mugwort black sesame bread and pure milk cake had a happy sweetness that really charges you up with sugar, and they went well with the nutty Americano.

How does the Peach Green Angel tea taste?
The Peach Green Angel tea was clean and cool too, and I was very happy with it! This was the one I liked best?? It even reminded me of the lemon green tea I drank in high school, haha.

Looking at the menu, the traditional teas like ginger tea and "Mother's jujube tea" looked great too, and I thought my grandmother would love it if I brought her here someday.

Who is Sum recommended for?

Sum, where I went this time, was a great place to clear your head while looking at a wide-open green view. It seems good for working on a laptop alone or as a solo café too? A place where I'd want to take a half-day off on a weekday 👍 It's also good for bringing parents or older relatives, and I recommend it as a great large Gwangju café for a date too!
