Returning for sundae-guk in Mohyeon-dong, Iksan

I picked up sundae-guk from Sumine Gukbap (수미네국밥), a great gukbap spot in Iksan, haha. It is one of my favorite gukbap places in Iksan. I had visited recently at my own expense, and it was so good that I kept thinking about it and came back!

Visit to Sumine Gukbap and sundae-guk takeout

This time, I got takeout and ate it at home. They serve sundae-guk, a soup with Korean blood sausage, and there is absolutely no unpleasant odor. It is packed with offal too, so it is perfect for a hearty bowl of gukbap 👍

What comes with the uncooked sundae-guk takeout

This time I took it home, and the bag was heavy from the start, haha. It was not just a lonely container of gukbap—they generously included sides such as buchu (garlic chives) and jeotgal (salted seafood), so I could enjoy it at home almost like eating at the restaurant.

I brought home the sundae-guk uncooked, and even for takeout, both the selection and portion were generous enough for a hearty meal.

Kimchi that paired beautifully with the gukbap

Isn't kimchi the finishing touch for gukbap? The kimchi here is truly special. It is delicious on its own, but the combination with gukbap is so good. Once I started having a spoonful of soup with a piece of kimchi, I just kept reaching for more.

Clean broth with no odor and springy sundae

It was delicious even eaten at home as takeout, which is exactly why I keep returning to Sumine Gukbap!

The gukbap broth felt like a rich beef-bone broth, but it was not overpowering and tasted clean. I thought it would be fine for children too, mixed with rice in the broth, haha.

Can you see how springy the sundae is? It had a lovely bouncy texture without being puffy or mushy. There was no unpleasant odor at all, and there was so much sundae and offal that it was fun picking through all the ingredients, haha. The broth was clean and mild like beef-bone broth, making it easy to enjoy without feeling weighed down.

Gukbap with sundae and offal

The sundae was springy and generously filled, becoming more savory and delicious with every bite, haha. It was clean with no unpleasant odor, so I think even people sensitive to the distinctive smell of sundae could enjoy it comfortably.

When the sundae in your gukbap is this good, that says it all, haha. Next time, I need to get just the sundae as takeout and really dig in. So, so delicious!!!!

I also loved that the offal came in a more varied and generous assortment than I expected. It is sundae-guk, but it was not only the sundae that was good—the offal was plentiful too, leaving me feeling full after one bowl! Anyone who loves lots of ingredients will probably enjoy this :)

A generous serving of sundae-guk offal

With clean, odor-free broth, springy well-filled sundae, and plentiful offal, it made for a hearty meal. Above all, the kimchi that paired so well with the gukbap was delicious too, so I think I will be craving it again, haha. If you are looking for a good lunch spot in Mohyeon-dong, Iksan, or enjoy clean-tasting sundae-guk, give it a try. It was generous and satisfying even at home as takeout, so I think I will be back again next time :)
