What the dining room is like, and eating out with a baby
The Deokeun Jangeo Gwangyang Branch space was spacious with generous table spacing, making it good for family meals or group dinners too. The wide windows meant eating without any stuffy feeling.

They also have baby chairs, so families with babies should find it easy to visit.

The self-serve bar and the meal menu at Deokeun Jangeo
Deokeun Jangeo has a well-stocked self-serve bar. You can grab as many extra side dishes, wrapping vegetables, pickled onions and sauces as you want, so you could eat comfortably without worrying about asking staff.

Deokeun Jangeo Gwangyang Branch also has a varied meal menu ready. Eel soup, eel tteokgalbi, mul naengmyeon, bibim naengmyeon, nurungji (scorched rice), and flying fish roe rice ball.

How the charcoal-grilled pungcheon eel tastes
The basic table setting came mostly with side dishes that go well with eel! Especially the pickled perilla leaves, which matched so well🫶🏿
The prepped eel was thick and glossy, just gleaming....✨
Grilled slowly over charcoal, the excess fat rendered out just right and the golden-brown color looked truly appetizing!
Crispy on the outside, cooking moist on the inside🤎

Eel that's crispy outside and moist yet springy inside! Best of all, there was zero fishy smell, and the clean, savory flavor was so good😻 The more you chew, the more the savory oil spreads through your mouth, without being greasy at all.

The basic sauce was tasty, but personally I loved the spicy sauce even more! One piece in the spicy sauce, one piece wrapped in perilla leaf, and one piece with ramsons — alternating like that meant I never got tired of it all the way to the end.

Finishing with eel soup, mul naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon
After enjoying the eel, we ordered eel soup to finish! The rich broth was loaded with napa cabbage greens and plenty of eel, making for a hearty finish. It felt spicy yet deeply savory, and there was almost no fishy taste, making it easy to enjoy without any hesitation.

We also ordered bibim naengmyeon and mul naengmyeon together! Both refreshed the palate, and eating them alongside the remaining eel felt like a great pairing🤎

The bibim naengmyeon in particular had a spicy kick that went really well with the eel🫶🏿💯

If you need a stamina boost or are looking for a spot for family or a group dinner, I recommend Deokeun Jangeo Gwangyang Branch! ♥︎
