Gijang grocery brunch café with granola Greek yogurt: Mandali To Go

Mandali To Go Ilgwang Branch is a European-style grocery brunch café in front of Ilgwang Beach in Gijang, Busan. After browsing the bread, ingredients and fresh flowers in the first-floor grocery, we had a full spread upstairs: a homemade jambon (French-style ham) apple cream cheese sandwich, house granola Greek yogurt, salted ciabatta, whole wheat levain nurungji (scorched rice) ciabatta and 100% fresh-squeezed orange juice. The Mandali To Go apple cream cheese sandwich, made with carrots sautéed in olive oil, was the standout.

Porcini gnocchi date for two at a Gijang outlet restaurant: Bueokgan

Bueokgan Restaurant is a Western restaurant on the 1st floor of Shinsegae Simon Busan Premium Outlets in Gijang, Busan. A couple ordered porcini mushroom gnocchi, basil margherita pizza and sweet pumpkin soup at Bueokgan, tasting the truffle-scented gnocchi sauce, the chewy pizza dough and a green pepper sauce served on the side. With lighting and decor that feel like a European restaurant, Bueokgan works well as a date spot, and one main each was plenty for two.

Open windows and a six-person table at Marine City Chinese: Bueokgan

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is a sea-view Chinese restaurant at 51 Marine City 3-ro in Haeundae, Busan, where second-floor floor-to-ceiling windows give every seat a view of Dongbaek Island and the sea. On a summer day with the windows thrown open, the writer ordered suran ganjajang (black bean noodles with a poached egg), beef brisket jjamppong (spicy noodle soup) and black vinegar tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), and the crisp napa cabbage and sweet stir-fried onions stood out. With tables seating up to six and a private room for larger groups, Bueokgan Chinese suits both get-togethers and dates.
