Jangsuchon Pungcheon Jangeo (장수촌 풍천장어) Gasan Digital branch is a grilled eel restaurant an easy walk from Exit 2 of Gasan Digital Complex Station. I was looking for a meeting spot near the station and went with a friend, partly to treat ourselves to a restorative meal and partly just to eat something good.

It's an easy walk from Exit 2 of Gasan Digital Complex Station, so access was great.

Is the atmosphere and seating good for a group dinner?

The restaurant is spacious, with plenty of room between tables, so the layout works well for groups eating together. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the wide, pleasant space~ The generous spacing between tables meant it never felt cramped.

The interior is kept clean, so I felt comfortable throughout the meal, and the staff were kind and attentive. They use fresh domestic eel, which made me trust the place even more.

They also sell eel extract (jangeo-jeup) on one side, which I thought would suit people who like to look after their health, or anyone shopping for a gift for their parents or a health food.

Is 1kg of salt-grilled eel enough for two?

We ordered 1kg of salt-grilled eel at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Jangeo, and it was plenty to fill the two of us. I picked salt-grilled because I wanted to really taste the eel itself, and it was a very satisfying choice.

When the eel arrived, it was so glossy that its freshness was obvious just from looking at it.

The wrap vegetables and side dishes that came with it were neatly prepared too, which made everything look even more appetizing.

Using the self bar

There's a self bar, so if the basic side dishes run out you can grab as much as you like without feeling awkward about it. That was really convenient.

I could bring back more wrap vegetables and side dishes that go well with eel, to suit my own taste, which made the meal even more generous.

Do you have to grill the eel yourself?

No. At Jangsuchon Pungcheon Jangeo, a staff member grilled our 1kg of domestic salt-grilled eel right in front of us, which was so convenient.

How done the eel is really matters, and the staff grilled it to the best point on their own, so we didn't have to worry about it at all.

Thanks to that, I could chat away with a friend I hadn't seen in a while and eat at a relaxed pace, and we got to eat the eel at its tastiest moment. Loved it.

How does the salt-grilled eel taste?

The salt-grilled eel had no fishy smell, with a crisp outside and a moist inside. Grilled golden brown, it was lightly crisp outside, while the inside stayed moist and springy.

The first thing I noticed with my first bite was how fresh the eel was. There was no fishiness at all, the outside was nicely crisp, and the inside was moist and tender. The more I chewed, the more that rich, nutty eel flavor filled my mouth, and the clean salt seasoning brought out the eel's natural taste even more.

With the special sauce and ginger

My friend and I chatted about this and that over a relaxed meal, and the eel was so fresh and tasty that we were both satisfied and polished it off in no time. It tasted like something I'd think of when I need a pick-me-up, and the portion was generous enough to leave the two of us full.
