Korean BBQ whole-pig platter in Daepyeong-dong, Sejong: Hanmaeum

Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang Sejong Daepyeong Branch is a Korean pork BBQ restaurant on Sicheong-daero in Daepyeong-dong, Sejong. The writer visited with their parents at 6:30 pm on a Monday, sat at a Geum River-view window seat, and shared the whole-pig platter of pork belly, ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly), pork neck, pork jowl and gabeuri-sal (pork collar cap), plus doenjang (soybean paste) stew from the self-serve bar and jjolmyeon (chewy noodles) with shredded green onion. With good-quality meat, free parking, a kids' playroom and group rooms, Hanmaeum Jeongyuk Sikdang works well for both family dinners and company get-togethers.

Dunsan-dong café for ranch mayo salt bread: Frank Coffee Bar Daejeon

Frank Coffee Bar Daejeon Dunsan Branch is a salt bread and croffle café in Dunsan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon, a 5-minute walk from Galleria Department Store. On a weekday afternoon visit the order was pollock roe ranch mayo salt bread, lemon sherbet ade and an Americano, and the salt bread stuffed with pollock roe mayo sauce right to the last bite was the standout. Floor-to-ceiling windows and warm lighting make Frank Coffee Bar an easy Dunsan-dong café to photograph from any seat.
