Why we chose Boxing Tiger Speakeasy near Sinsa Station for our anniversary
Boxing Tiger Speakeasy is a cocktail speakeasy bar near Sinsa Station. We're normally soju-and-beer (somaek) people, but for our anniversary we wanted a fancier atmosphere, so we searched around and ended up at Boxing Tiger, a Sinsa Station bar with great cocktails!
These days it feels more accurate to say you go to experience a space rather than just to drink. Boxing Tiger, near Sinsa Station, is exactly that kind of place!!

What is a speakeasy bar, and how do you get into Boxing Tiger?
At Boxing Tiger, you press a bell, a window opens, and after a staff member's signal, a door disguised as a wall slides open with a rumble. Have you heard of a speakeasy bar?! I'd only heard of them, and this was my first time visiting one, haha.
The speakeasy bar culture started with the secret bars that sold liquor during Prohibition in America. Drinking was illegal back then, so people hid the entrance or used passwords to get in, and the name "speakeasy" supposedly comes from the idea of speaking quietly!!
Speakeasy bars today often have small signs or unusual entrances unlike a regular pub, and it feels like you've discovered a secret space. At Boxing Tiger too, you wonder "where's the door?", then press the bell, a window opens, and with the staff's signal the hidden wall door slides open! I felt like a secret agent, like I'd walked into Kingsman, haha.

Boxing Tiger's atmosphere: good for dates and blind dates?
Inside Boxing Tiger there's soft lighting, stylish interiors and music at just the right volume, so it's a nice place for quiet conversation! I can't believe I get to hang out somewhere this classy, hahaha. It felt like stepping into a movie scene.
It's not a loud pub where you drink in a blur; it's a space for savoring a glass while having a good conversation with someone good. (Maybe that's why there were some people on blind dates too!)

The basic service when you sit down
The moment we sat down at Boxing Tiger, we got hand towels, and they asked whether we preferred sparkling or still water. The attentive care made us feel looked after from the start. If you enjoy atmosphere, I really recommend going!!

We also got a sweet welcome shot, haha. They say a good bar shows its quality in service before the liquor, and Boxing Tiger is exactly that! We'd been seated for less than a minute and already felt treated well, and being here on a date with someone I love made me so happy, hahaha, hehe.
Boxing Tiger serves everything from whisky to highballs! We tried 4 drinks: a signature cocktail, a Godfather, and the owner's cocktail, haha.
Jumun Baedal: a dry cocktail made with Munbaeju

The first cocktail we ordered at Boxing Tiger was Jumun Baedal (주문배달)! I never imagined Munbaeju (a traditional Korean distilled liquor) could be presented so elegantly, and I thought, these people really know how to play with liquor! The first scent is soft and the finish lingers. If you like strong, dry cocktails, you'll definitely love it.

Is this what grown-up taste is, hahahaha? These days I really prefer drinks that are basic and clean yet still feel luxurious, rather than sweet ones!

If you order Jumun Baedal, a snack comes with it like this! The clean olives and smoked cheese chips went so well with the strong drink!
Omae Bulmang: a fresh, fragrant, sweet cocktail

I was craving something sweet, so we ordered Boxing Tiger's Omae Bulmang (오매불망)!

Omae Bulmang hits you with freshness on the first sip, then a subtle aroma lingers so long that you keep thinking about it! It's sweet and fragrant but not overwhelming, and I almost downed it in one go after the first sip, hahaha. After finishing it, I almost found myself pining for Omae Bulmang itself (the name means "longing day and night").

Boxing Tiger's basic snack: crackers and cheese
Boxing Tiger Speakeasy serves a snack like this! You spread cheese on the crackers, and as a cheese lover, it suited me perfectly, haha.

It's a classy snack but mild in flavor, so it goes well with any drink, haha.
The owner's off-menu cocktail

What impressed me most at Boxing Tiger was the owner's recommended cocktail! Seeing the style of cocktail I was drinking, the owner made something similar on the spot, and wow, it hit my taste exactly!!! Eggs went in, along with tons of ingredients, so I couldn't imagine what it would taste like, but out came a fresh, smooth cocktail in no time!

It had a subtle apricot aroma and a sweet flavor! It felt like being given an off-menu drink tailored to my taste, hahaha. I already knew Boxing Tiger was good, so I went in with expectations, and it still beat them! Experiences like this are why I think a good bar makes you remember the person, not the liquor.

Oh! And while we chatted and drank, we kept reaching for the crackers and cream cheese, and when they saw how little was left, they gave us a fresh plate again!! Details like this are why the price of a cocktail doesn't feel like a waste. And honestly, the taste is a big part of it too, hahaha.
Godfather: a classic cocktail served from a wooden box
Boxing Tiger's Godfather is a classic cocktail that comes out of a wooden box, and it lives up to its name, haha. I already liked the Godfather, which proves that classics last forever, but here the entrance alone shows real class.
A Godfather coming out of a wooden box! Its weighty presence is obvious from the moment it arrives, and you can taste the elegance starting with how it looks.
From the moment I got the glass, I felt like the lead in a movie, hahahaha. The heavy yet balanced flavor was impressive, and its classic, flawless taste was perfect for sipping slowly.
The Godfather clearly showed that this isn't just a place to drink, but a place to enjoy atmosphere and service together!!

Why I recommend Boxing Tiger for an anniversary date near Sinsa Station
Boxing Tiger reminded me again that when a good drink meets a good space, even the memory of the day becomes special. Sometimes it's so happy to spend time as a couple in a place with a great atmosphere, having deep conversations and making memories, haha. If you're looking for a Sinsa Station bar with tasty cocktails and great atmosphere, I recommend Boxing Tiger Speakeasy!!
