Hapjeong Thai holiday lunch, pho with extra cilantro: Saeng Augustine
In short
Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch is a Thai restaurant on basement level 1 of Mecenatpolis, connected to Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. On the way to Ilsan over a holiday weekend, the writer and her husband had the poo pad pong curry (Thai stir-fried crab curry, 36,000 won) her husband had been craving and Vietnamese pho with extra cilantro (13,000 won) for weekend lunch. Saeng Augustine's poo pad pong curry tones down the spices and heat for Korean tastes, making it an easy pick for a family meal or a weekend date.

How to get to Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch and where to park
Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch is on the B1 level of Mecenatpolis at Hapjeong Station, directly connected to the subway, so it's super easy to find. Free parking is a whole 3 hours 30 minutes, too.
My husband loves Saeng Augustine's crab curry! I remembered him saying a few months ago that he wanted to go. We were heading to Ilsan anyway, and from Hapjeong we had to catch a red bus there, so for the holiday I took us to Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch.

Honestly, since we still get around on foot, the parking time means nothing to us.

What are the free corkage conditions at Saeng Augustine Hapjeong?
There's a Saeng Augustine x Wine & More free corkage deal. It applies when you enter on weekdays between 5 and 7 PM, allows one 750ml bottle of wine per table, and requires a final bill of ₩50,000 or more.
Though honestly, I suspect nobody would know if you just brought wine from home instead of buying it at Wine & More and asked for the free corkage...?! We found out about it when my wine-loving husband and I browsed Wine & More before going into Saeng Augustine. For a date, an anniversary, or any time you want a special mood, coming here with the free corkage deal would be great. It's a really good Hapjeong Station restaurant.

Saeng Augustine Hapjeong's atmosphere at weekend lunch

We visited Saeng Augustine Hapjeong around 12 PM, the weekend lunch peak, but there weren't many customers. Maybe thanks to that, the food came out almost fast-food fast!

The side dish is cabbage pickle. I love pickles, and they're a must when you're eating something rich.

Next up are the noodle sauces and small plates. Where's the dish for the sauce...?!
Saeng Augustine Vietnamese pho: how much is extra cilantro?

The Vietnamese pho at Saeng Augustine is ₩13,000, and for ₩1,000 more you get quite a lot of cilantro. There were Vietnamese pho, Thai rice noodle soup and red noodle soup, but that day I just craved the familiar Vietnamese pho broth.

First off, there are really a lot of noodles, lol. As a cilantro lover, I was happy with the extra cilantro. The seasoning isn't strong and is mostly mild, so it's a Hapjeong Station restaurant that's just right for kids to eat, too.
How does Saeng Augustine's crab curry taste?

The crab curry at Saeng Augustine (₩36,000) was the dish my husband had been waiting for. Extra rice costs ₩2,000, which I thought was pricey, but they brought almost one and a half bowls of rice.

It's been so long since I had crab curry. I think I tried it once in Thailand and haven't had it since coming back to Korea... maybe once? If I did, I don't remember it, so I guess I haven't, haha.

The crab meat is plump and the sauce is generous.

Eaten with rice, it tastes familiar and comforting, like something you've had somewhere before. You could say it's been toned down a lot for Korean tastes. The spices and sharp, tingling kick typical of Thai food are completely gone, so I could see why this Hapjeong Station restaurant gets so many families...! Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch is a good spot for a weekend outing or a date.
