Seomyeon pub for soft tofu kimchi stew & soju-beer: 5 Budu Twigimjip
In short
5 Budu Twigimjip (5부두튀긴집) is a handmade fritter and Korean snack pub in an alley in Bujeon-dong, near Seomyeon Station in Busan. On a Saturday evening the writer ordered soft tofu kimchi stew (sundubu kimchi jeongol) and the special shrimp fritters with somaek, a soju-beer mix of Daeseon soju and Cass; the stew was so good with rice that it counts as a 'rice thief', and the fritters came out crisp and plump. 5 Budu Twigimjip is a retro, good-value Seomyeon pub for fritters with draft beer or somaek.

The free side snack is shrimp crackers
The free side snack at 5 Budu Twigimjip is shrimp crackers (saewookkang), and extra servings are ₩1,000. A nostalgic snack, and you just can't stop reaching for it! Addictive shrimp crackers are the best beer snack. A good place right from the free side snack.

How was the soft tofu kimchi stew?
The soft tofu kimchi stew at 5 Budu Twigimjip comes with whole soft tofu, and since the kitchen cooks it fully before serving, you can dig in right away. The soft, silky texture of the tofu was so good, with crunchy, tangy kimchi and plenty of rich, tender beef belly, and the broth had real depth. It makes you call for soju and for rice.
It comes in a stone pot, so even with the burner off, it holds the heat and stays reasonably warm. Get the soft tofu kimchi stew as your soju snack, and it's even better with somaek. I ordered one bowl of rice too, and it vanished in no time. A total rice thief.
How do the special shrimp fritters come out?
The special shrimp fritters at 5 Budu Twigimjip come as 3 pieces with shrimp roe chips on the side. When you order fritters, 4 kinds of sauce come with them, so dip them however you like for even more flavor.
The special shrimp fritters were super crisp, with plump, springy, chewy shrimp, so good. Dipped in tartar sauce they were even better. The shrimp roe chips are another nostalgic snack, crunchy with a shrimp flavor that makes you crave beer.
Somaek with Daeseon soju and Cass
I ordered one bottle each of Daeseon soju and Cass bottled beer. Daeseon is the soju you have to try in Busan. I got one bottle each to make somaek (soju-beer mix), and I usually go 3 parts soju to 7 parts beer, half a glass each in a beer glass. It's smooth with little bitterness, so it goes down fast. The food is so good that you end up gulping it. Somaek is love! I had it instead of draft beer, but if you like somaek, mix one and have it with the food.
I finished with bottled cola. Not many places sell bottled cola these days, and this nostalgic bottle was fizzy and sweet, and I enjoyed it. Thanks for the great meal at 5 Budu Twigimjip.
