Sinjungdong Western lunch: giant pork cutlet & shrimp balls at P&Chick

What kind of place is P&Chick?

P&Chick is a Western restaurant inside the We've the State complex by Sinjungdong Station in Bucheon, and I hear it has long been famous for its Chicago pizza. Honestly, the complex has so many tasty restaurants that it could pass for a pilgrimage site for food lovers, more than you'd expect.

For lunch we came for the thick, giant-style loin gyeongyangsik cutlet (Japanese-influenced Western-style pork cutlet with brown sauce) and the Toowoomba pasta.

If you want good-value Western food in Bucheon, there are few places as solid as P&Chick. It's a total Sinjungdong favorite, you know? They sell pizza, pasta and other Western dishes, and, unusually, a variety of katsu including the gyeongyangsik cutlet, so it also goes nicely with alcohol.

Getting to P&Chick from Sinjungdong Station

From Exit 3 of Sinjungdong Station, follow the road straight toward Wonmi Police Station and Lotte Department Store, cross a few crosswalks, and P&Chick sits snugly right inside the We've the State complex~!

What's the atmosphere like?

The restaurant was bigger than I expected, clean, and has a lovely mood too. Spacious, tidy, nice vibes: P&Chick in Sinjungdong ticks all three boxes.

When it's this uncrowded, you can eat quietly and focus fully on your meal.

The view is nice too, so couples can have a Western-food date that feels worth every won. The owner and staff are all friendly, which I loved.

The complimentary pumpkin soup

P&Chick serves pumpkin soup by default. The place is pleasant and clean, and the value is decent too, so it's my own go-to Sinjungdong cutlet spot to recommend to friends and acquaintances.

I tried the free pumpkin soup first, and it was so smooth, just soft!

There are croutons in the soup too, so it has some crunch.

I didn't regret ordering the cutlet at all: the portion is generous and the thick loin meat is impressive. Two pieces come on the plate, and that amount really moved me.

What makes P&Chick's Toowoomba pasta different?

P&Chick's Toowoomba pasta (a creamy, spicy cream pasta) comes out of the oven, so it stays warm and is less soggy in texture, which is a plus. I usually love Toowoomba pasta, so I was even more satisfied.

With the homemade Toowoomba sauce it feels less store-bought. It tastes like a Toowoomba pasta made just for me by a partner who cooks really well, or a friend in the restaurant business, so you can really feel the care in it.

And the noodles are so springy, with fresh arugula as a bonus. Honestly, if you come to P&Chick, you have to try this.

How big is the loin gyeongyangsik cutlet?

P&Chick's loin gyeongyangsik cutlet comes with a whopping 2 pieces of Hanwoo-pork loin cutlet (Hanwoo here is the writer's wording for premium Korean pork), so big eaters and guys, I absolutely recommend coming.

It's a cutlet you can enjoy with the homemade brown sauce :)

Besides the cabbage salad (sarada), there's a pumpkin ball salad, which I like. I had pumpkin salad just the other day and it still tastes great at P&Chick~!

There's also kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and danmuji (pickled yellow radish), so I never got bored and cleared the whole gyeongyangsik katsu plate.

How are the 3-piece shrimp balls?

With just the mains I got curious about the sides, so I ordered the 3-piece shrimp balls, and they turned out to be a little sneaky, actually! The texture was slightly different from ordinary fried shrimp, and it felt strongly like eating a fish ball, which was fresh. If you like shrimp, I'd say give it a try at least once.

Dunk them in the homemade tartar sauce that comes with them, and I bet they'd make a nice homemade-style snack for kids too?

If you join P&Chick's receipt review event, you get a free fruit ade. There were actually various review gifts, including a homemade highball, but I'm a drinks person, so I picked an ade. You can choose lemon, grapefruit or green grape; I always drink grapefruit, so this time I went with lemon, and the strong sourness was great.

I hope more people discover the real value of P&Chick, a Bucheon Sinjungdong favorite and cutlet spot. It's cleaner than you'd expect and the food is excellent. Next time I'll head back to Sinjungdong for the Chicago pizza and chicken.
