Weekday lunch with no wait at Katsuryun, a Magok-dong tonkatsu spot
In short
Katsuryun is a Japanese tonkatsu restaurant on Magok-jungang 6-ro in Gangseo, Seoul, a short walk from Magok Station and Seoul Botanic Park. On a Friday weekday lunch there was no wait, and the writer ordered one loin katsu and one fillet katsu made with Korean pork aged 164 hours: the breading was thin and crisp, and the tenderloin cutlet was so large it was hard to hold with chopsticks. With 2 hours of free parking at the Prugio lot, Katsuryun is an easy meal to pair with a walk through Seoul Botanic Park.

A Magok Station restaurant, finally found! ❤️ After searching for ages around Magok, I finally discovered a proper tonkatsu place. It's Katsuryun's Magok branch, which has been quietly building buzz as a Magok Station restaurant lately, so I went in with high expectations. It's also well known as a restaurant near Seoul Botanic Park, so it's the perfect spot to grab a hearty meal nearby after a walk through the garden.

Where is Katsuryun, and is there parking near Magok Station?
Katsuryun is located at 1F 101, 10 Magok-jungang 6-ro, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, and offers 2 hours of free parking at the Prugio parking lot. This is definitely worth knowing if you're looking for a restaurant near Magok Station. It's also super close to the station, isn't it? Parking is easy since it's in a large building, and getting a generous 2 hours free is great! No matter how good a restaurant is, it's a hassle if parking is inconvenient or it's far from the station!

- 🚗 Parking: 2 hours free (Prugio parking lot)
- ❤️ A tonkatsu restaurant using pork aged 164 hours for deep flavor and juicy texture
- 🚘 Nearby attraction: Seoul Botanic Park
It's also close to Seoul Botanic Park, making it a great route for a meal after a walk, which is probably why it's already gotten a reputation as a restaurant near Seoul Botanic Park. With the new COEX branch opening in Magok, I've been visiting Magok more often to check out expos!!

Inside Katsuryun: solo counter seats and group tables
Katsuryun's Magok branch was a modern restaurant with both solo dining seats and tables for groups. Walking in, the clean, modern interior caught my eye. The lighting is soft enough that eating alone doesn't feel awkward, and with everything from solo seats to group tables available, it's a comfortable place to visit with family or a partner too.

Katsuryun menu: Ryun Byeolseon and Ryun Teukseon sets, plus tori katsu
Katsuryun has set menus called Ryun Byeolseon and Ryun Teukseon that let you mix and match whatever you want to eat! There's also an unusual tori katsu (chicken cutlet) menu, which made me think I'd have to come back for something different next time.
I visited on a Friday (weekday) lunch and there was no wait, which was great! There were a lot of nearby office workers eating alone!

How the loin katsu and fillet katsu taste: thin breading, huge tenderloin
I ordered Katsuryun's signature loin katsu and fillet katsu, one of each, because I wanted to try both cuts together. The freshly fried katsu had thin, crispy breading, and the moment I bit in, juicy juices came out. You can tell from the photos alone that the tonkatsu is huge, right? I was shocked the moment I saw the tenderloin katsu — it was so big!!! Have you ever seen tonkatsu this big? It was so large it was hard to even pick up with chopsticks haha.

What impressed me most was how it brought out the meat's natural flavor without being greasy. You could choose between salt, tonkatsu sauce, and wasabi, so it was easy to enjoy it your own way, and personally I found dipping the meat lightly in salt was the tastiest.

Sides at Katsuryun: cabbage salad and Japanese-style soup curry
The cabbage salad served on the side was fresh and the dressing wasn't overdone, pairing well,

and the Japanese-style soup curry was another standout.
Is Katsuryun in Magok worth a return visit?
The value for money was so high that it's a place I'd want to return to whenever I want proper tonkatsu near Magok.
I strongly recommend Katsuryun both to those looking for a restaurant near Magok Station and to those stopping by a restaurant near Seoul Botanic Park after a walk there. Overall, the quality for the price was very satisfying, and if you're looking for proper Japanese-style tonkatsu near Magok, Katsuryun would be a great choice. I'd recommend it as a lunch spot for Magok office workers, and also as a meal after a weekend walk through Seoul Botanic Park. If you're searching "Magok Station restaurant" or "Seoul Botanic Park restaurant" and can't decide, you won't regret giving Katsuryun a try. Next time, I definitely plan to try other menu items!
