Daegu izakaya for two-person drinks and yuzu highball: Gyodong Nakwon
In short
Gyodong Nakwon is an izakaya on the main street of Gyodong in Jung-gu, Daegu, serving Japanese-style bar food. At a table for two, the order was a medium-spicy motsunabe (Japanese offal hot pot), a small plate of aged salmon sashimi, a Suntory highball and a non-alcoholic yuzu highball, with noodles added once the broth cooked down rich and deep. For a Gyodong bar in Daegu where the food matches the drinks, Gyodong Nakwon is the answer.

Gyodong's main street in Daegu gets packed with foot traffic on weekends and evenings, and it's full of all kinds of bars. Today I'm writing about my visit to Gyodong Nakwon, a Daegu Gyodong bar that keeps a steady stream of visitors thanks to its Japanese-style bar food and neat menu lineup!
Gyodong Nakwon hours, parking and how to get there
Gyodong Nakwon is an izakaya in Gyodong, Jung-gu, Daegu, open Sun–Thu 18:00–02:00 and Fri–Sat 17:00–02:00. On weekends you can park for free at the Daegu City Hall parking lot.

Seats at Gyodong Nakwon: solo counter, tables for two, terrace
Walking inside Gyodong Nakwon, there's a bar (dachi) counter and regular tables great for drinking alone or with one other person, plus terrace seating. The terrace even lets you watch baseball, so if you're into it, I'd recommend grabbing a terrace seat.
I sat at a two-top ~
You can put your bags on the side.

Today I went with the motsunabe and a small aged salmon sashimi!
- Suntory Highball ₩8,000
- Non-alcoholic Yuzu Highball ₩7,500
And this is what we ordered for the highballs.

Suntory highball vs non-alcoholic yuzu highball: how they taste
At Gyodong Nakwon, the non-alcoholic yuzu highball (₩7,500) is sweet, while the Suntory highball (₩8,000) has a pretty strong taste of alcohol. The motsunabe came out first. They asked how spicy we wanted it, so we just went with medium.

Just looking at it made me want soju,,

The chilled highballs came out too! The non-alcoholic yuzu highball was seriously sweet and delicious. The Suntory highball must have had a lot of Suntory in it because it had a strong alcohol taste, and I loved it, haha.

If you don't like a strong alcohol taste, it might be good to ask in advance.

Small aged salmon sashimi: thick cuts, no fishy taste
The small aged salmon sashimi at Gyodong Nakwon is ₩27,000. The aged salmon sashimi showed up too ~ thick slices of salmon sashimi with no fishy taste at all and a really firm, delicious texture!!

A generous spread — you've got to fill your stomach before drinking, right.

Cheers, let's dig in deliciously.

The salmon melted in my mouth from the first bite — I was seriously floored!!!! The tartar sauce and wasabi combo was so good.
Topping it with onion and radish sprouts is basically a house rule? When the food is this good, the drinks just go down on their own.

Medium-spicy motsunabe and adding noodles to the broth
They told us the motsunabe (₩26,000) at Gyodong Nakwon is ready to eat after just 5 minutes of boiling. The base is a handmade chicken broth simmered for 10 hours, so the broth flavor isn't light at all — it's a rich, deep flavor that coats your whole mouth, seriously insane. The beef intestine had no gaminess, and even at medium spice level it was nicely fiery and delicious.

There were also lots of vegetables in it, which made it even tastier,

and dipping it in the sesame sauce they gave us made it even better!

That bubbling visual is so good, right?

After tasting the broth, it was so good I immediately thought 'we need to add noodles!!' and ordered the noodle add-on right away.

If you go to Gyodong Nakwon, a Daegu Gyodong bar, order the noodle add-on for your motsunabe right from the start ~

Right when your mouth starts feeling the spice, eat some salmon, then go back to the motsunabe and drink — the combo of dishes is just so good.

We had a really delicious round of drinks with food and left after an enjoyable dinner.
Oh, right now if you turn on map notifications for Gyodong Nakwon, this Daegu Gyodong bar, they give you a cheese omelet, so make sure to use the coupon ~

If you're looking for a Daegu Gyodong bar with genuinely delicious bar food, I recommend Gyodong Nakwon!!!
