Daejeon weeknight hanwoo dinner with doenjang jjigae: Wonangmyeongga
In short
Wonangmyeongga Dunsan City Hall Branch is a large hanwoo (Korean beef) butcher restaurant near the city hall in Dunsan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon. On a weeknight visit with a husband who finishes work late, the writer chose cuts directly at the butcher counter and ate a hanjeongsik-style set of side dishes plus doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) that tasted like homemade paste. The whole meal was good enough that even a picky beef eater switched his regular spot to Wonangmyeongga.

My camping buddy husband is a total meat lover, and he's especially picky about hanwoo (Korean beef) quality. At butcher restaurants, when a place goes beyond just meat and a simple side or two and brings out a full hanjeongsik (Korean set-meal) style spread — japchae, salad, all sorts of banchan — the whole meal feels so much more special.
After all our Snow Peak IGT camping trips in barbecue mode, today was easy-meat-dinner mode. This is Wonangmyeongga Dunsan City Hall Branch, the big hanwoo restaurant near Daejeon City Hall famous for its waits — a Dunsan-dong hanwoo hotspot. Great for family dinners, meals with parents, or group gatherings. Here's how it went.

Where is Wonangmyeongga Dunsan City Hall Branch, and what are its hours?
Wonangmyeongga Dunsan City Hall Branch is a hanwoo butcher restaurant at 41 Dunsanseo-ro, Seo-gu, Daejeon, South Korea. It's open daily 11:00–22:30, with a break time from 14:30 to 17:00.
How the butcher counter works: picking your own hanwoo cuts

Wonangmyeongga Dunsan City Hall Branch is a hanwoo butcher restaurant where you pick out the meat yourself, choosing from cuts like kkotdeungsim (marbled ribeye), galbisal, tenderloin, jebichuri, and salchisal. My husband gets off work late, so I was relieved there was still such a good selection left by the time we arrived. It was so good that we went back another day just to buy meat to take to the campsite.

Beyond the grilled meat, this is known as a large butcher restaurant with a wide range of full meal options too.
Inside Wonangmyeongga: interior and private rooms

The place was completely full when we walked in, so I only managed to photograph the interior after we finished eating. It's especially popular for group dinners. We used to stick to our regular butcher restaurant in Gwanpyeong-dong, but after this visit we were both won over enough to switch to Wonangmyeongga, haha.
Even though it's a butcher restaurant, the interior has a hanjeongsik kind of polish, and with private rooms available, the meal felt even more upscale.
Side dishes that arrive like a hanjeongsik spread

The basic banchan (side dish) setup. Prices stay reasonable, but the banchan setting feels upscale.

My husband is hardly ever satisfied with meat quality, but even he was impressed with the value for money — the meat quality and the hanjeongsik-style side dishes together.
How the hanwoo tastes: thickness and grilling

Meat always looks better in real life than in photos. Seeing the marbling and condition of the cuts in person before buying really paid off — the juiciness and flavor of this hanwoo were something else.

My husband rotates through hanwoo from butcher restaurants and Emart pork jowl-bone, honeycomb samgyeopsal, and back ribs at the campsite — he's a total meat person, dead serious about it. He works long hours all summer through the heat without ever complaining, so I'm genuinely grateful we get to enjoy good food together like this.
It felt less like a meat-only hanwoo joint and more like receiving a full hanjeongsik spread, which makes it great for birthdays or anniversaries too. Even just the basic spread made for a really filling weeknight dinner.
Hanwoo prices alone aren't exactly cheap, but the overall meal — meat quality plus the variety in the spread and the range of dishes you can pair with it — is really well put together. Anyone can tell how much care goes into every single banchan and dish at Wonangmyeongga.

What matters most to him is the thickness of the meat and how it's grilled. The juiciness changes depending on the thickness, so getting the doneness right to your taste really matters. Still, a table set for you beats grilling it yourself at the campsite, haha.
Doenjang jjigae to finish and the dessert corner

The doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) here, with its rich anchovy broth and homemade-tasting paste, was outstanding. I'm not usually a fan of restaurant doenjang jjigae since I'm used to homemade paste, but this one was cooked well enough that I finished a whole bowl of rice with it.
Is Wonangmyeongga good for a Dunsan-dong work dinner or family meal?
Dunsan-dong in Daejeon is packed with offices and government buildings, so people there are picky about food quality. The fact that a place like Wonangmyeongga Dunsan City Hall Branch draws waits like this says a lot about its reputation.
It's a solid choice not just for family dinners but also for staff dinners, gatherings, anniversaries, birthdays, or year-end parties — the scale of the place can easily handle it, making it a good pick when you're looking for a hanwoo restaurant in Daejeon.
Good hanwoo plus a generous hanjeongsik-style spread made this Dunsan-dong hanwoo restaurant feel like being properly taken care of. It's a great choice for a hearty meal, for eating with family or parents, or for anyone who values the overall dining experience. If you're weighing hanwoo options in Daejeon, hopefully this review helps.
