Namwon Cham Chueotang Seohaeseon Sincheon Station branch is a mudfish soup (chueotang) restaurant near Sammi Market in Sincheon-dong, Siheung, a 2-minute walk from Exit 5 of Sincheon Station. After a weekend visit to a jjimjilbang (Korean bathhouse and sauna) with his wife, the writer ordered cham chueotang, cham tong chueotang made with whole raw mudfish, and a small plate of fried mudfish, and was most surprised that stone pot rice, plain rice and even the mudfish soup are refilled for free. Rich, nutty broth and generous free refills made Namwon Cham Chueotang a satisfying weekend restorative meal.

Juan Station sundae soup with broth refills and extra rice: Suraok

Suraok Sundaeguk Juan Station Branch (수라옥순대국 주안역점) is a sundae soup (Korean blood sausage soup) restaurant right in front of Exit 6 of Juan Station in Michuhol, Incheon. For an early lunch, the writer and his wife ordered the signature Suraok sundae soup, the clear sundae soup and 2 add-on sets of native sundae, boiled pork and liver. The add-on sets prompted an extra bowl of rice each, and the couple also got a broth refill and a summer-only ice cream dessert. For a hearty bowl of gukbap, ordering sundae soup with the add-on set at Suraok Sundaeguk Juan Station Branch is worth it.

Cheongpyeong butcher: homemade marinated pork king galbi, Ari Chuksan

Ari Chuksan is a butcher shop on Gangbyeon-ro in Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong, Gyeonggi, handy for picking up meat and vegetables in one stop on the way to a Gapyeong pension or campsite. During a weekend sale, the blogger bought two packs, Ari Chuksan's in-house marinated pork king galbi (wang galbi, large pork ribs) and Hanwoo-brand Korean pork (Handon) stew meat. The shop threw in a free pack of pork skirt meat, and at home the galbi was pan-grilled and the skirt meat went into kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew). Verdict: the marinade had already soaked into the galbi, so it needed no extra marinating and only a few minutes in the pan.
