Post-practicum magic setting perm, Geomdan salon: Lee Kyung Min Foret

I got a magic setting perm from designer Gaon at Lee Kyung Min Foret Geomdan New Town Branch.

My hospital practicum is finally, truly over. 780 hours, which felt long and short at the same time. To celebrate, I wanted a change of mood, so I went to get my hair done! For women, nothing beats a hair salon for that, right?

Lee Kyung Min Foret Geomdan New Town Branch is at 377 Eum 1-ro, Geomdan-gu, Incheon, South Korea, on the 3rd floor of Geomdan Nundambom (Units 304–305). It's open Tue–Sun 10:00–19:30 and closed every Monday. Parking is registered for the length of your treatment.

It's close to Ara Station, so it's convenient by public transport, and I love that they register parking for the length of your treatment! One catch: on weekends or in the afternoon, parking can be tight, so if you drive, I'd leave yourself plenty of time.

The prices are posted at the shop entrance~ I went planning to get a magic setting perm (roots straightened, setting perm below), and it starts at ₩240,000!

Salon atmosphere and shampoo room

The salon is spacious with big windows, so it doesn't feel stuffy at all! It's clean and stylish, and the seats are spaced out comfortably, so you can relax while getting your hair done~ Treatments at a salon take a long time, so the atmosphere really matters!

The shampoo room has seats for 3 people. I got my shampoo before the treatment, and it was such a refreshing wash that I was in a great mood ☺️

My hair before: curly hair grown out after a blunt bob and straightening

I'd flat-ironed my hair before coming. I'd had a blunt bob with a straightening perm, but now that my hair had grown out I wanted to change my hairstyle a bit.

I thought I'd flat-ironed it really carefully, but when you lift the top layer, the inside is still curly. That's probably why my hair looked so frizzy.

After the consultation, why a magic setting perm instead of a setting perm?

After talking with designer Gaon, we decided on a magic setting perm: roots straightened, setting perm below. I was told there's an extra length charge for hair below the chin, so I added the extra length and a clinic treatment too.

I showed her a photo of the style I wanted and asked if it was possible~~~~ After the photo and consultation, we decided to straighten the roots and do a setting perm below.

They also set out drinks and snacks during the treatment! I finished my drink midway and even had coffee,,, haha. Designer Gaon noticed I'd finished my drink and looked after me so thoughtfully 😊

I couldn't take photos during the cut because my hands were tied up, but after washing and before the perm, she gave me a light trim!

I'd planned on just a setting perm, but because my hair is curly, she said the upper part needed straightening to avoid frizz, so we went with the magic setting perm~ My hair and my face are both on the dry side, so I added a clinic treatment along with the perm. For dry hair, a clinic is a must .ᐟ.ᐟ.ᐟ

How the magic setting perm went

After washing, my hair was dried and the roots were straightened, zzzip, zzzip!!! Straightening is really not an easy process. She was incredibly meticulous about it.

After the straightening came the neutralizing step~ It didn't take long!

The magic setting perm at Lee Kyung Min Foret Geomdan New Town Branch came out quite close to the look I wanted. The curls turn inward and the ends flip outward, a natural style.

I've had so many failed perms,,, so my heart was pounding as I dried my hair, but it came out quite close to what I wanted! She also showed me carefully how to dry it, but whether I can actually do it well,,, I'm worried 🤣 How you dry a perm seems to be super important.

Heavy curls don't really suit me, but these curls go in naturally and flip out at the ends, so it feels stylish!
