The wiper noise and blurry view on rainy days had been bothering me, so I tried AutoGrooming Clean View oil film remover during a self-service car wash.
Why did I start using an oil film remover?
For the past few months, the wipers had been squeaking whenever it rained. Even after spraying windshield washer fluid, the view did not feel clear, and there were times when running the wipers actually made it harder to see ahead or caused severe glare, which felt dangerous.
At first, I considered changing the windshield washer fluid, and I even bought new wipers on someone's recommendation. When things did not improve, a coworker told me it could be oily residue on the glass, so I decided to try an oil film remover. I usually focus on cleaning the outside of the car, but this time I wanted to take care of the glass too.
What are the Clean View contents and texture like?
Inside the zip bag were the oil film remover itself and one microfiber hand mitt. The product was mint-colored, and the bag and bottle had brief directions printed on them, so I followed the steps in order.
What order did I use it in on the glass?
The directions on the product said to remove dirt from the glass first, spread the solution widely, rub it in, and rinse.
- Remove dirt from the glass surface.
- Spread the oil film remover widely over the glass surface.
- Rub in straight lines 4 to 5 times. The directions describe the point when the solution settles on the glass as the state in which the oil film has been removed.
- Rinse the glass thoroughly with running water.
- If you need a water-repellent coating, dry the moisture first and apply it separately.
I first cleaned the front windshield and then applied Clean View. It had some viscosity, so it clung well to the glass and felt a little sticky. It was easy to use because it comes as a squeeze-out solution rather than a stick type.
The product directions say it is for glass only and must not be used inside a car. They also say it can be used on shower booths in addition to car glass.
Were there any difficulties when I rubbed it in?
At first, I was not used to the method and rubbed in different directions, which left a lot of marks. After that, I chose one direction, from top to bottom, and wiped evenly. In my experience, it was better to keep the direction consistent while wiping.
I think it took about 10 minutes to do both the front and rear windshields. It did not feel like a major burden to do alongside a self-service car wash.
What was the glass like after rinsing with water?
I did the work in my parents' apartment parking lot, but there was no hose. So I filled a bucket with water and splashed it on several times to rinse. After pouring on the water, the glass seemed to take on a natural shine.
