Jongno 3-ga bakery on a half day off: 6 gift breads at opening, Munhwa
In short
Munhwa Bakery (문화제빵) is a takeout-only bakery with hanok-style design on Donhwamun-ro in Jongno, Seoul, near Exit 7 of Jongno 3-ga Station. On a half day off, the writer visited Munhwa Bakery right at opening and bought 6 breads as gifts (a mugwort rice cake bun, 2 milk cream buns, garlic bread, a peanut bun and a walnut bun) for under ₩30,000. Munhwa Bakery sells only bread baked that day and shares unsold bread with people in need, making it a good Jongno bakery for buying gift bread.

Where is Munhwa Bakery near Jongno 3-ga Station, and when does it open?
Munhwa Bakery (문화제빵) is at 65 Donhwamun-ro, 1st floor, Jongno-gu, Seoul, 199 m from Exit 7 of Jongno 3-ga Station on Lines 1, 3 and 5. It is open daily 11:00 - 19:00, and there's no parking, so you'll need a nearby paid lot.
This bakery has a reputation for being delicious in Jongno, and I'd had my eye on it for a while, so this time I took a half day off and zoomed over 🏃🏻♀️ (a half day off is always the right call). Let me introduce Munhwa Bakery, which was great in both taste and reviews 🤍

Munhwa Bakery is a 5-minute walk from Exit 7 of Jongno 3-ga Station. There's a bus stop right in front too, so it's easy to reach. The hanok-style building sits nestled between other buildings, and it has so much charm 🏛️

Why does Munhwa Bakery let in only two groups at a time?
Munhwa Bakery is takeout only and the inside isn't big, so they let in two groups at a time. At the lower left of the entrance it says <The Bakery That Saves Children> (아동을 살리는 빵집), and the bakery says it runs on these principles:
- Only bread made that day is sold
- Bread that doesn't sell is given to people in need, such as children who miss meals, elderly people living alone, homebound people with disabilities, and free meal centers
I think it's even more popular because the bread is tasty and it has meaning behind it :)

Should you visit Munhwa Bakery right at opening?
The popular breads at Munhwa Bakery sell out early, so going right at opening was definitely an advantage. Once after work I called, and they said only two kinds of bread were left,, (popularity problem). Today I went almost right when they opened and got to see the breads fresh and warm from the oven >_< total win
First impression: they look so healthy!!! The peanut bun is generously covered in peanuts, and the mugwort rice cake bun looks seriously impressive haha

Coffee bun and garlic bread: Munhwa Bakery's likely signatures
What stood out at Munhwa Bakery were the coffee bun (₩5,500) and the glossy, shiny garlic bread (₩6,500) 🥖 Both had one kind displayed as the main item, so they seem to be the signature menu ✨
Just as I was agonizing over which bread to buy, someone next to me said, "I heard this place is great for garlic bread," so I overheard that and ordered the garlic bread (hahaha). They cut the garlic bread into pieces and packed it neatly. Such a thoughtful touch, easy to eat and nice to look at!

Payment and packaging tips at Munhwa Bakery
At Munhwa Bakery, if you write a receipt review (photo review), they give you a salt bread too, so don't miss it 🔥 Bank transfer works as well. Since I was buying for a gift, I asked for a paper bag (otherwise it's a plastic bag, which was pretty too) haha

There was also sample bread in front of the register! It was sweet potato bread, sweet and crispy and delicious.

How much did 6 gift breads from Munhwa Bakery cost?
I bought 6 breads at Munhwa Bakery (mugwort rice cake bun, 2 milk cream buns, garlic bread, peanut bun, walnut bun) and it came to less than ₩30,000 🫧 Yay, one hand happily full of bread, all packed 💛 I think it makes a really nice gift too haha

It's normally a famous spot where people queue up, and true to its reputation, the bread looked really delicious and the staff were kind. Munhwa Bakery is also famous as an Ikseon-dong bakery, and if you come to Jongno, I recommend stopping by 👍🏻
Since I bought mine as gifts this time, I haven't actually eaten anything except the sample sweet potato bread, but next time I'll definitely stop by and try the garlic bread and the onion bagel!!!
