Sinnonhyeon café, black sesame coffee pairing: Something About Coffee
In short
Something About Coffee is a three-floor dessert café in Gangnam, Seoul, about 5 minutes on foot from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 6. On a weekday daytime visit, the writer ordered the black sesame fig cheesecake, black sesame coffee, an egg cookie and a hojicha choux milk tea, and found that the black sesame cake and black sesame coffee together carried the same nutty flavor, making a great pairing. The black sesame fig cheesecake alone makes Something About Coffee a Sinnonhyeon café worth returning to.

Menu and how to order at Something About Coffee

You order on the 2nd floor at Something About Coffee, and that day I picked a bit of everything, from dessert to drinks! I ordered black sesame fig cheesecake, black sesame coffee, an egg cookie, and hojicha choux milk tea! 🖤🤎
How does the black sesame fig cheesecake taste?

The black sesame fig cheesecake had a nutty, rich black sesame flavor with the mild sweetness of fig layered on top, making for a unique combination! The name alone was exactly the kind of pairing I like, so I picked it right away haha.
It also went really well with the soft, dense texture of the cheesecake, so it paired nicely with coffee! If you love that distinctive nutty black sesame flavor, this is a dessert you'll be satisfied with haha.

Egg cookie studded with vanilla bean
The egg cookies at Something About Coffee had visible flecks of vanilla bean baked right in, which made them look even more appetizing! The egg cookie was definitely not to be skipped! 🍪
You could catch a subtle, fragrant hint of vanilla, which made them great with coffee or milk tea! They were the perfect dessert to nibble on piece by piece while sipping your drink haha.

Black sesame coffee and black sesame cheesecake pairing
Eating the black sesame fig cheesecake together with the black sesame coffee meant the nutty flavor carried through, and the pairing was really nice! The black sesame coffee I ordered alongside it had rich coffee flavor with nutty black sesame added in, giving it a charm quite different from regular coffee haha ☕️

What does the hojicha choux milk tea taste like?
The hojicha choux milk tea combined the toasty, deep aroma of hojicha with the smooth taste of milk tea, making it comforting to drink! 🧋 It had a different kind of nuttiness from the black sesame coffee, so it was fun switching back and forth between the two haha.
There are plenty of other cafés near Sinnonhyeon Station, but the desserts at Something About Coffee are really something!! Please, please try the black sesame fig cheesecake!! I'm already planning to come back just for this haha.
Verdict: who to visit Something About Coffee in Sinnonhyeon with

Something About Coffee has a wide variety of desserts and drinks, so it's great for picking whatever suits your taste! With space split across 3 floors, it seemed like a good spot to catch up with a friend or to sit alone and relax.
And best of all, you can get 20% off drinks on weekdays from 12 to 1pm, so if you're planning a weekday visit, that discount window is worth keeping in mind! Between the nutty black sesame desserts and coffee and the vanilla-bean-studded egg cookies, it was a really satisfying café visit! 🤎☕️
There's a good variety of seating throughout the café, so it works whether you want to spend quiet time alone or come with friends. Because the space is split across floors, it didn't feel cramped even after staying a while, and it was a great place to relax while enjoying dessert and drinks together haha. Next time I want to try some of the other dessert menu items! ☕️🍪
