Why I chose Heeol Hair Gangnam Flagship Store for my awkward grown-out length
I've been growing out a near-short cut with no real plan, and I went to Designer Lee Hyeon at Heeol Hair Gangnam Flagship Store (희올헤어 강남본점), a hair salon near Sinnonhyeon Station, to sort it out. It was in urgent need of help, because it was at that awkward "beggar zone" (거지존) stage...! The length flicks out right at the shoulders, and my hair has a bit of wave, so it can look messy really easily :( So I picked a place that's good at natural medium-length build perms!

What's the atmosphere at Heeol Hair Gangnam Flagship Store like?
The interior is stylish and warm, so the first impression was great the moment I walked in. Personally I don't like crowded, busy places, but even though there were several designers, it didn't feel chaotic. The whole vibe was calm and comfortable.
The seats are spaced widely apart, so I was comfortable the whole time. The shampoo room is cozy, and even the restroom is decorated so prettily that it wins over the ladies... haha.
During the treatment they brought me the drinks and snacks I wanted, twice no less, and the service was super friendly.
How much was Designer Lee Hyeon's long perm + clinic?
I got a long perm and treatment care from Designer Lee Hyeon at Heeol Hair Gangnam Flagship Store: ₩250,000 + ₩60,000 = ₩310,000 in total. Before booking I looked through the profile, and I loved the intro line, "custom design that looks good just by drying"! It sounded like exactly what I wanted, since I usually prefer easy-to-style looks, so I booked.
The style I wanted: thick C-curl + S-curl build perm
Rather than a strongly curled perm, I wanted a thick, naturally flowing build perm (C-curl + S-curl).
Since I'd just been growing it out from a short cut, there were still layers left. To keep it from looking too messy, we did a thick perm and also cut side bangs to naturally frame my face shape. There were several kinds of clinic treatments, but I chose the good-value basic treatment care to keep the cost down.
Medium bob build perm process and how long it takes
The long perm at Heeol Hair Gangnam Flagship Store took about 3 hours for a medium-length bob, from 1:00 pm to 3:50 pm. The process went in this order:
- Shampoo
- First cut
- Heat treatment
- Second cut
- Perm work (including root perm and straightening)
- Neutralizing
- Clinic care and scalp pack
- Blow-dry
She was careful and thorough right to the end, and what I especially remember is that she's quick but also gentle and kind :)
How did the medium bob build perm turn out?
Designer Lee's build perm combined natural C-curls and S-curls in thick curls, exactly the natural style I wanted. Thanks to the clinic I got with it, perm damage was reduced and collagen supplied basic nutrition, so my hair felt light rather than heavy or over-conditioned, and the care stayed within what my hair could handle. I was especially happy with how pretty the S-curl came out where the side bangs connect to the back hair!
How to style a build perm at home
The drying method Designer Lee taught me: shake your hair forward and dry it roughly, then flip it back and dry for only the last 30 seconds or so. She explained that this brings the curls out naturally. Thanks to that, I can style it nicely while drying in the morning, so it's easy to maintain!
- Tilt your head slightly to the side while drying to bring out the side volume at the middle of your head.
- When shaping curls, don't twist too hard; just add light tension.
She told me these tips in detail, so I can style it like a salon at home every day. If you're worrying about a medium-length perm like me, an easy-to-style build perm from Designer Lee at Heeol Hair Gangnam Flagship Store is worth a try :D
