Jongak Station sushi with sweet potato tempura for two: Choe Uyeong

A Jongak Station sushi spot, Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch

I was craving sushi near Gwanghwamun, so I went to Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch 🍣 It's located between Jongak Station and Gwanghwamun Station, so it's easy to get to, and you can enjoy a variety of sushi menus at reasonable prices!! A great value-for-money sushi restaurant haha. That day I ordered the premium sushi set along with sweet potato tempura, and I was really satisfied with the variety of sushi and how fresh the sashimi was haha.

This generous spread was ₩33,000!!

The sashimi quality was pretty decent too haha

And the sweet potato tempura I ordered as a side — this is fully recommended,,, should I call it whole sweet potato tempura...?? It comes out fried in big chunks, fluffy and really tasty haha. It's a fairly new place, so it's super clean and the food is good too, so if you're looking for a sushi restaurant near Jongak Station, this is one I'd recommend haha.

Where is Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch, and what are the hours and parking?

Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch is about 235m from Jongak Station Exit 1, located between Jongak Station and Gwanghwamun Station haha. Head to the basement level of the Tower8 building, where the NongHyup Bank is! It's also close to Grand Seoul, D Tower, Jongno Tower, Kyobo Book Centre, etc., making it a good spot for nearby office workers to visit for lunch or dinner after work.

I finished work on time and walked from Gwanghwamun, which took about 7 minutes,, 🚶🏻‍♀️ After eating here you can cross over to the Starfield Avenue building for dessert, done,,, (Tower8 and the Starfield building are connected)

The inside was super clean and spacious haha. A great spot for solo dining!! The table seats have partitions like this so you can eat privately!

Menu and what we ordered

The menu includes sashimi, sushi sets, à la carte sushi, kaisendon (seafood rice bowl), tempura, and more. We were going to order several à la carte pieces but just went with two premium sushi sets, 17 pieces each. The prices are pretty affordable so you can order without much burden!! The sweet potato tempura also looked delicious so we added two haha 🍾Corkage available, ₩3,000 per bottle

I drank the day before so I went with cider instead of alcohol,,,

Ginger, pickled radish, and soy sauce are on the table so you just help yourself haha

They gave us clear soup first, which was so warm and tasty

What comes in the 33,000-won 17-piece premium sushi set?

The most expensive and generous of the sushi sets, the premium sushi! With 17 pieces, it comes out filling a whole plate, so just looking at it was filling haha

The premium sushi set includes red shrimp with sea urchin roe, scallop, abalone, monkfish liver with squid, tamagoyaki (rolled omelet), eel, sea urchin roe, negitoro gunkan (fatty tuna roll), salmon, red seabream, bluefin tuna, flounder fin, and more.

Whole sweet potato tempura for 3,000 won

The warm sweet potato tempura that came out in the middle~!! I didn't expect such a big sweet potato to come out 💸₩3,000 worth of happiness💸

A real steamed sweet potato!!! Honestly I was expecting thin sliced sweet potato tempura, but it was so generous

I cut it into bite-sized pieces and dipped it in the sauce, and it was seriously delicious

It was soft and sweet, good for picking at in between bites haha

Tasting the sushi piece by piece

I started with the tamagoyaki sushi. Fluffy and soft, exactly the flavor we all know!

The abalone was so soft and moist, delicious. Nothing like the dry texture you get at a conveyor-belt sushi place!!

Red shrimp with sea urchin roe sushi 🦐 I love both shrimp and sea urchin roe, so how could this combo not be delicious,,, Firm red shrimp topped with sea urchin roe, adding the shrimp's sweetness to the rich, nutty flavor of the sea urchin roe.

No fishy taste at all haha

Refreshed with sweet eel, done.

The flounder fin had such a nutty flavor,,,🫶🏻 my favorite haha

The rice amount was just right and the sashimi was so fresh haha. The quality wasn't bad at all.

I don't usually like monkfish liver but why is this one so delicious. The rich flavor is top notch!

Three kinds of gunkan haha, by this point I was a bit full so I couldn't really taste them well ㅠㅠ

Finished off with tuna,,,, for this amount and quality at this price, it's really great 👏🏻 A great value sushi restaurant!! The location is really good, it's clean, the food is solid all around, and there's even free parking, so I'll definitely think of it next time I'm craving sushi in Jongno or Jongak haha.
