Japanese draft beer bar in Seomyeon, Busan, with Mom: Ganppa Beer

My mom doesn't drink much, but she enjoys a beer now and then. I wanted her to taste the draft beer I'd had in Japan, but I can't exactly fly to Japan right now... Then I remembered a friend saying Ganppa Beer's draft beer is amazing, so I took her to this Seomyeon beer spot, Ganppa Beer (간빠맥주). We'd just come back from a trip, had a cold beer and a great time, so here's my very satisfied review ❣️

Where is Ganppa Beer Seomyeon, and what's the vibe?

The bar is right in the middle of Seomyeon, so there are restaurants and pubs all around. It's perfect for a quick drink after a meal or as a second round. I had dinner nearby and then came for a beer, and it's not tucked deep in an alley, so it was easy to find.

I think it would be nice to drink outside here too. The cask-style decor is hip through and through!

How long is the wait at Ganppa Beer Seomyeon?

When I went it was too early for a second round, so luckily there was no wait, but after 8 p.m. you should plan for one. I heard the Gwangalli Ganppa Beer can have a 4-hour wait (a second branch has opened too, and I'm planning to visit soon~).

Is Ganppa Beer standing only?

Yes, every seat is standing. So it feels better for a quick second round than for a long stay.

The wet-tissue case was pretty, so I took a photo (the one at the next spot was Pikachu, which was cute too)

There were notepads and pens on the table, and when I came back from the restroom, my mom was writing something. So touching 😂 I'd been boasting that if it weren't for me, when would she ever visit a place full of young people, lol

Ganppa Beer Seomyeon Hyeongje Branch really listens to its customers. I couldn't leave a survey answer, but since people usually come in twos, I'd love fried chicken wings in 2P or 4P!!

Events like these make Ganppa Beer even more fun (I almost took on a challenge but held back^^)

My mom and I ordered the Ganppa special tebasaki 3P and 2 Sapporo draft beers set for ₩26,900. We were already full but ordered a snack anyway hehehe. I hesitated between fried chicken skin, Osaka chicken and tebasaki, then went with my mom's pick, the Ganppa special tebasaki~

After you order, a staff member pours the beer right in front of you and explains the process. Watching it makes the beer taste even better, and it's a fun touch 😊

Right after that, they guide you to your spot. Hang your bag underneath. There are power outlets too, such a thoughtful touch, love it!

How did the Sapporo draft beer taste?

The foam on top of the Sapporo draft was so soft, and the beer underneath went down clean and cold, glug glug. Cheers~~ (Careful, the glass costs ₩30,000, more than the beer^^) I actually wanted to chug it and order another, but my mom stopped me. The two guys at the next table really did chug theirs and leave🤣

I expected the beer to be good, but the snacks were great too. The Ganppa special tebasaki is sweet and salty fried chicken wings, and people say it beats Kyochon, which turned out to be true. And what on earth is that cabbage sauce..? I usually avoid sauces unless they're low-sugar, but I scraped the plate clean.

I even took photos pretending to be Japanese lol. Had such a fun time with my mom 😆

I'd been curious about Ganppa Beer! I'm more of a soju person than a beer person, so I hesitated, but I was completely satisfied. It seems great for a date too, so next time I'll go with my husband.
