Jogane Sotbap in Haman Beopsu: location and parking

While traveling in Haman, Gyeongnam, there was one place I really wanted to visit: Jogane Sotbap (조가네솥밥), a well-known restaurant in Haman.

Its location is also convenient enough that people looking for Korean food near Agyangru stop by, so I was even more excited.

Jogane Sotbap is a great lunch spot in Haman, with its own parking lot right out front, making it easy to visit.

The restaurant sits down a quiet neighborhood lane. There seemed to be plenty of visitors from outside Haman as well as local residents who wanted to enjoy Korean food near Agyangru, and families were especially noticeable. As it is popular, there may be a wait at mealtimes, so I recommend visiting with time to spare and avoiding the break time (15:00–16:30). It is regularly closed on Tuesdays, so keep that in mind before visiting.

Sotbap, individually cooked pot rice, is a traditional Korean dish that began with rice cooked in old-fashioned large cauldrons. As cooking techniques developed from those large cauldrons, we have arrived at an era of one pot of rice per person—keeping the flavor while making it quicker to enjoy.

Looking out at the expansive forest view through the floor-to-ceiling windows made the meal taste even better.

Once we were shown to our table, neatly prepared side dishes began arriving one by one before long. There was such a variety, and the seasoning was mild rather than overpowering, so I thought people of all ages could enjoy them comfortably.

Neatly arranged Korean set-meal side dishes

From seasoned greens to braised dishes and seasonal vegetable salads, every part of the spread felt thoughtfully made. My appetite was already whetted before the rice even arrived.

The freshly cooked sotbap had an exceptional stickiness.

After serving out the rice, pour water into the pot and put the lid back on. Near the end of the meal, finish with nurungji sungnyung, a light scorched-rice soup.

The seafood-filled doenjang-guk, soybean-paste soup, was rich, savory, and truly delicious.

The jeyuk, spicy stir-fried pork, was delicious on its own, but try wrapping a generous bite in fresh lettuce with this restaurant's doenjang and garlic.

There were also buckwheat pancakes, japchae, stir-fried glass noodles, and dubu-kimchi, tofu with kimchi. Jogane Sotbap's sotbap set meal is ₩14,000 and its regular set meal is ₩12,000, which felt reasonably priced for the spread. If you are looking for a Korean set meal in Haman, it would be hard to find this kind of value.

These days, quick meals and convenience food are so familiar, but the lovingly prepared side dishes and freshly cooked sotbap left a strong impression here. If you are looking for a good restaurant in Haman Beopsu, I recommend visiting at least once. Whether you come for a Haman Korean set meal or simply a hearty meal, it will be a choice you will not regret. If I have a chance to return to Haman, Jogane Sotbap will come to mind again without hesitation.

Agyang Ecological Park and Agyangru are both within a 10-minute drive, so I recommend it before or after exploring Haman.
