In short

Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang Namyang Hwaseong City Hall Main Branch is a butcher-style Korean BBQ restaurant in Namyang-eup, Hwaseong, where diners pick meat from the display case and have it pre-seared over charcoal. The writer chose fresh pork belly and whole pork skirt (gabrisal), watched staff slice the seared meat at the table, and also enjoyed tacos from the self-serve bar, ramen in hanwoo beef bone broth and Sangha Farm ice cream. Morakmorak suits diners who want the fun of choosing their meat and the fun of the whole grilling process.

There's a parking area, so parking is easy. On weekends, though, it may get short of space, haha.

How do you choose your meat at a jeongyuk sikdang (butcher restaurant)?

Once you step inside Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang, you'll see a display of meat laid out like in a butcher shop. It's a little different from an ordinary BBQ place: you look at the meat yourself and pick the cut you want to eat.

Being able to see the meat and choose gave me the fun of picking a cut, and I really felt that fresh, generous butcher-restaurant vibe. The staff slice the meat for you in 100g units, so if the amount you want isn't on display, you can just order it.

What comes with the ₩5,000 per person table setting?

The basic table setting at Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang is ₩5,000 per person, haha. Yukhoe (seasoned raw beef), muksabal (acorn jelly in cold broth), soybean paste stew and more are included. Pretty solid, right? Things like yukhoe and muksabal come out like appetizers, and you can fetch more side dishes, tacos and so on yourself from the self-bar, as much as you need, which is handy.

Table ordering and the lunch-only Sanmideogi Kimchi Jeongol

For any extra orders there's a table-order device, so ordering is easy, haha.

Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang has a lunch-only dish called Sanmideogi Kimchi Jeongol (mountain-of-kimchi hot pot). The base is a hanwoo (Korean beef) bone broth made from beef they butcher themselves, and into it goes chilled (not frozen) Korean pork front leg, pork belly and pork neck that have been seared over charcoal first, they say, haha. A deep, rich broth with a subtle charcoal aroma sounds delicious.

There's also a self-serve fried egg that kids and adults both like, so it felt like a good family lunch option too. Next time I'll have to visit for the Sanmideogi Kimchi Jeongol.

Naver review event

With the Naver review event, you can get Sanghamokjang ice cream for free, haha. You should join in on an event like this, right? Let's polish off dessert later too~

How was the fresh pork belly and whole pork jowl cut at the table?

The meats I chose at Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang were fresh pork belly and whole pork jowl (tonggabrisal). The look is great, right? They come pre-seared over charcoal, so the meat has a faint smoky flavor, and my expectations were already rising before I ate, haha.

Most fun of all was the performance of a staff member slicing the pre-seared meat right in front of us at the table! Having it cut into bite-sized pieces before your eyes is fun to watch and makes you feel like you're really enjoying the meat.

Grilling the pre-seared meat again gives you a golden outside and a juicy inside, which is great. There's no time limit, so you can grill leisurely, like camping.

It's fresh chilled meat, so it tasted fresh in itself, and it's not sliced too thin. It has some thickness, so the texture was chewy yet juicy, which I liked. The whole pork jowl was tender and springy, so meat lovers will be really satisfied.

I think I ate really well, haha. It's delicious no matter how you eat it.

Hanwoo bone broth ramen to finish the meal

Even after stuffing myself with meat, there's one dish I end up eating again at the end, haha: Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang's hanwoo bone broth ramen. With its rich bone broth base, it feels different from ordinary ramen.

The leftover charcoal aroma from the meat blends with the rich broth, making it just right as a final dish. Even when you're full, you keep going back for the broth, if that makes sense?

Dessert: Sanghamokjang ice cream for ₩2,500

Dessert at Morakmorak Jeongyuk Sikdang is Sanghamokjang ice cream. You can get it by joining the review event, or order it through the table order for ₩2,500, haha. Finishing a meat meal cleanly with ice cream is so good.
