What kind of café is Chimney Mansion?

Chimney Mansion is a chimney bread (kürtőskalács, a spiral dough pastry baked on a wooden rod) bakery café between Hongdae and Hapjeong, and it's a big café that uses an entire house-like building. After pizza with my mom, I wanted a unique Hongdae café to hang out in, and I went to Chimney Mansion, famous for its chimney bread bakery!

The place is huge, right? It's a big café that uses almost a whole house-like building, haha. We came from the Hapjeong side, and since Chimney Mansion sits between Hongdae and Hapjeong, it's easy to get to from either. If you need parking, use a public lot nearby!

The concept of Chimney Mansion, a converted house café

Chimney Mansion is a converted house, so the atmosphere is unusual right from the start. The café has a story too: the chimney bread dough is wrapped around a wooden rod and baked in the oven, and the concept is a family home with a dad who goes off to clean chimneys and his chubby, adorable youngest daughter!

The windows are big, and the sun was out that day, so the natural light was insane. It was a weekday, so we felt like the very first guests, and after the lunch hour a group or two trickled in, haha.

What chimney bread flavors does Chimney Mansion have?

Chimney Mansion's chimney bread comes in lots of flavors, from plain to cinnamon, chocolate, cream cheese and pistachio. The chimney breads are the first thing you see when you walk in! There are all kinds of desserts made with chimney bread, plus plenty of coffee and other drinks, so it's a good café for a Hongdae or Hapjeong date too, haha. We decided to grab a seat first and order after!

How are the 1st and 2nd floor seats at Chimney Mansion?

The seating is on the 1st and 2nd floors, and both are nice and roomy. The 1st floor holds the history of the chimney-sweeping family, haha. When I came in winter there was a fake fire..? lol on the big 1st-floor table, but it's summer now so they seemed to have it turned off, haha. A staff member was cleaning thoroughly when I was there, so I think they take hygiene and cleanliness seriously. The restroom is inside on the 1st floor too, which is even better 😊

I like the 2nd floor more, since it's a brighter space. The concept is that the laundry is freshly washed and the family relaxes together! The lamps are pretty and the curtains are unusual~ Yep, a unique Hongdae café that refuses to be ordinary, haha.

Ordering cinnamon and pistachio cream chimney bread

This time at Chimney Mansion I picked cinnamon chimney bread, pistachio cream chimney bread and coffee. After grabbing a seat, I came downstairs to order coffee and chimney bread. First I picked up a cinnamon one~

Then I wanted one more, but there are so many kinds, lol. I was too full for three, so after much agonizing I chose the pistachio cream chimney bread. And the ones in my photos aren't all of them... there's even one with sausage inside, so the selection is huge!

Chimney Mansion also has chimney bread baked to order and menu items topped with ice cream, so pick whatever you like. I've had an ice cream one before and it was good too, haha.

How did the chimney bread at Chimney Mansion taste?

The cinnamon chimney bread at Chimney Mansion was plain in a good way and tasty, and the pistachio cream chimney bread was rich and tasty. Our drinks and chimney bread came out. They even give you scissors to cut it, haha.

There was one with sausage inside too, and it feels like it'd be like a hot dog and really good, haha.

They say that at Chimney Mansion, stories of eras, culture, family, neighbors, friends and the neighborhood greet each other with the message of "good luck." With the concept built on a chimney-sweeping family that brings luck, we also had a fun and tasty time while recalling our trip to the Czech Republic 🤭 Next time I want chimney bread, I'll go again!
