Hey everyone. I sometimes go to Jayang Market, and I always noticed one dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken bites) shop at the crossroads packed with a crowd. I'd always been curious about it.
Turns out it's a famous dakgangjeong spot in Jayang Market. This time I finally visited Mr. Kim's Chicken Jayang Market Branch, so let me introduce it.

Why people queue at this Jayang Market dakgangjeong shop
When I walked into Jayang Market, one spot stood out with a long line — that was Mr. Kim's Chicken Jayang Market Branch.
With such a huge volume of orders, there were five staff members in total. These days labor costs are so high that even fast food chains barely have enough staff. But this small dakgangjeong shop inside Jayang Market had five people working hard and fast, and it gave me no sense of just how popular and famous this place really is.
Because the order volume is so massive, it was impressive to see the five staff members working in a clear, systematic division of labor to make the dakgangjeong.
The freshly fried chicken looked so good.
Fried chicken dakgangjeong, seasoned dakgangjeong, mild dakgangjeong — everything looked so delicious that during the roughly ten minutes I waited after ordering, I could barely resist wanting to sneak just one piece.
The seasoned chicken looked really good too. They piled on the sauce generously and mixed it well. There's a ₩3,000 difference between the fried chicken and the seasoned chicken, and that price gap didn't seem unreasonable at all — these days ordering chicken from a franchise easily costs over ₩20,000.

Mr. Kim's Chicken isn't selling cheap — they're upfront that there's simply no reason to charge more. It's a Jayang Market dakgangjeong shop that tastes great whether it's cold or warm.
Next time, I want to grab a whole old-style fried chicken too — it looks like great value for a whole bird.
Mild dakgangjeong, medium 9,000 won, eaten at Ttukseom Han River Park
We packed the mild dakgangjeong, medium size (₩9,000) from Mr. Kim's Chicken Jayang Market Branch and ate it at Ttukseom Han River Park. There was plenty of tteok (rice cake) mixed in, and the mild flavor was just right.
It's not overly spicy at all — choosing mild over spicy felt like the right call. It was pleasantly sweet, a classic delicious dakgangjeong flavor.
Eating dakgangjeong while looking out at the Han River made for such a great vibe. If you're out for a stroll near Ttukseom Han River Park, I'd definitely recommend packing dakgangjeong from Mr. Kim's Chicken in Jayang Market.
There was so much tteok that even after two of us ate, it still hadn't run out — the portion was really generous.
Four drumsticks for 6,000 won
The drumsticks were also great value. Four big drumsticks for ₩6,000 — that's only ₩1,500 each. It really feels like prices from 30 years ago. These days you can barely find drumsticks at a convenience store, but even there they'd probably run around ₩3,000 each.
Even cold, the drumsticks stayed crispy and tasted great. If you're taking these home, popping them in an air fryer for a bit should make them taste even better.
Fried chicken gizzard for 8,000 won
Last up, the gizzard. It seemed like a special item so I gave it a try, and at ₩8,000 the price was easy to swing. I'd seen a recommendation saying you have to order the gizzard if you visit Mr. Kim's Chicken Jayang Market Branch, and I don't regret it at all. The portion was so big that two people couldn't finish everything, so I packed the gizzard home to reheat in the air fryer later.
